Australia claimed the opening victory at the Olympic Games tournament. They rolled past France in Group A opener. Patrick Mills (183-PG-88, college: St.Mary's, CA) nailed 21 points to lead the Boomers.
Australia dominated from start to finish in this game. The Boomers recorded a 20:14 lead after the opening frame. Les Bleues picked up the tempo in the second term. Tony Parker (188-PG-82) scored 16 points in the period and pulled France within 3 points at the interval 36:33. But Australia regained control in the third term. The Boomers went on a 25:15 rally to open a 13-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. Australia sank 26 points in the final period and sealed the winning outcome. Andrew Bogut (213-C-84, college: Utah) had 18 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds, while Aron Baynes (208-C-86, college: Washington St.) added 14 points for the Boomers. Tony Parker responded with 18 points for France. Mickael Gelabale (202-SF-83, agency: BeoBasket) produced 13 points in the defeat.
