Venezuela - China 72-68
Venezuela opened win count in Rio de Janeiro. They topped China to improve at 1-2 record at the tournament. Nestor Colmenares (203-PF-87, college: Campbellsville, agency: Pro Sports) delivered 16 points to lead the Latin American side. Venezuela jumped to a 25:13 lead after ten minutes. China pulled within 3 points at halftime though 35:38. The Asian powerhouse got as close as one point heading into the fourth period. But Venezuela sank 21 points in the final stanza and clinched a valuable victory at the end. Gregory Vargas (180-PG-86, agency: Pro Sports) had 13 points for the winners. Yi Jianlian (212-PF-87) responded with 18 points and 10 rebounds for China.

Australia - USA 88-98
Team USA recorded the third straight victory in Group A. They survived their toughest test so far claiming a difficult win over strong Australia. Carmelo Anthony (203-SF-84, college: Syracuse) connected for 31 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to lead the winners. Australia unleashed 54 points in the first half to gain a 5-point halftime lead. Team USA limited their opponents to 13 points in the third quarter to take a 3-point lead into the fourth quarter. Team USA went for 28 points in the fourth period and got away with the victory. Kyrie Irving (190-G-92, college: Duke) accounted for 19 points in the win. Patrick Mills (183-PG-88, college: St.Mary's, CA) responded with 30 points for Australia. Andrew Bogut (213-C-84, college: Utah) had 15 points in the loss.

Serbia - France 75-76
Tony Parker (188-PG-82) hit a jumper late in regulation to propel France past Serbia tonight. France improved at 2-1 record, while dropping Serbia at 1-2 in Group A. Nando De Colo (196-SG-87) stepped up with 22 points to lead the winners. France opened the game on a 20:4 run. They secured a 26:17 lead ten minutes into the game. Serbia however responded with a strong rally in the next two quarters to secure a 3-point lead at the final intermission. They led by five points heading into the final three minutes of regulation. But Nando De Colo sank 4 points in a row and then Tony Parker nailed a jumper as France got away with a narrow victory. Joffrey Lauvergne (210-PF-91, agency: BeoBasket) had 12 points for the winners. Miroslav Raduljica (213-C-88) responded with 16 points for Serbia.

Team USA - Serbia 96:66 Team USA earned the third straight Olympic Gold. They cruised past Serbia in the championship game tonight.
