Basketball in Poland has long history. National league was created in 1928. Polish National Team won first medal (bronze) during European Champions in 1939. The best
years for Polish National Team was between 1963-67. During that times Poland won one silver and two bronze medals on European Champions. Polish National Team was
participated also 5-times on Olimpic Games.
Big times for international players in polish league start from early 90-years. During that times the best American player in Poland was Keith Williams. Polish fans remember
also Nathan Buntin, Ronnie Battle, Richard Robinson, Samuel Hines, Tyrone Thomas, Antoine Joubert, Duane Cooper, Oliver Miller, Ed OŽBannon, Michael Hawkins and
many others. Now in Polish Professional League (PLK) are basketball players from USA, Croatia, Yugoslavia, Lituania, Estonia, Belarous, Ukraine and many others
countries. Some teams has also international coaches. Current polish champion - Idea Slask Wroclaw was 9 times the best team in Poland between 1991 and 2001. Idea
Slask Wroclaw is playing in Euroleague in season 2001/2002. The biggest yearly budget has Idea Slask Wroclaw - 4,2 mln USD, Anwil Wloclawek - 3,5 mln USD, Prokom
Trefl Sopot - 3,0 mln USD, MKS Pruszkow - 2,4 mln USD. The budget for the others clubs vary from 0,5 to 1,0 mln USD. Polish Professional League (PLK) decided that in
each team can play 2 American players and 6 from European countries.
