The Second Stage in PLK just started. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with change at the leadership position and favorites losing the games.

PLK round 1 caused change at the leadership position. Anwil (0-1) against Asseco Prokom (1-0) 82-61 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Anwil. The game without a history. Asseco Prokom led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Jerel Blassingame (175-81, college: UNLV) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 5 assists. Lithuanian power forward Donatas Motiejunas (213-90, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 16 points for the winners. Asseco Prokom's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American power forward Corsley Edwards (205-79, college: Cent.Conn.St.) answered with 19 points for Anwil. Defending champion keeps a position of Group A leader, which they share with Energa Czarni. Anwil at the other side still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with PGE Turow. They were replaced at the leadership position by Slask Wroclaw. Anwil will play next round against strong Trefl Sopot trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Asseco Prokom will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Zastal ZG in Zielona Gora.
Undefeated Zastal ZG (1-1) recorded its first loss on the court of second ranked Trefl Sopot. Visitors were defeated by Trefl Sopot 77-73. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Zastal ZG. The former international guard Lukasz Koszarek (187-84) stepped up and scored 25 points for the winners and John Turek chipped in 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side Ivorian-Puerto Rican point guard Walter Hodge (183-86, college: Florida) responded with 21 points and 9 assists. Despite that victory Trefl Sopot went down to third position (Group A) due to points difference, which they share with defeated Zastal ZG. Trefl Sopot will play against Anwil (#6) in Wloclawek in the next round. Zastal ZG will play at home against the league's leader Asseco Prokom in Gdynia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked PGE Turow (0-1) against fifth ranked Zastal ZG (1-1) on Saturday night. Host PGE Turow was defeated by Zastal ZG in Zgorzelec 91-73. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of PGE Turow. Piotr Stelmach nailed 27 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. David Jackson came up with 19 points and 4 assists for PGE Turow in the defeat. PGE Turow's coach Jacek Winnicki rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. It was the only win of guest team this round and in all other games host teams recorded victories. Zastal ZG left bottom position moving up to third place in Group A, which they share with Trefl Sopot. Loser PGE Turow still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with Anwil. Zastal ZG will meet at home league's leader Asseco Prokom in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. PGE Turow will play against the league's second-placed Energa Czarni (#2) in Slupsk.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Trefl Sopot (1-1) against leader Energa Czarni (1-0) on Sunday night. Visiting Trefl Sopot was defeated by Energa Czarni in a tough game in Slupsk 83-88. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Trefl Sopot. It was a key game for the top position in Group A. Stanley Burrell fired 27 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Energa Czarni keeps a position of Group A leader, which they share with Asseco Prokom. Trefl Sopot at the other side dropped to the third place with one game lost. Energa Czarni's next round opponent will be PGE Turow (#5) in Zgorzelec. Trefl Sopot will play at home against Anwil in Wloclawek.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked AZS Koszalin (10-15) against fourth ranked Siarka Jezioro (11-14) on Saturday night. Visiting AZS Koszalin was defeated by Siarka Jezioro in a tough game in Tarnobrzeg 83-87. American players dominated the game. It was a very good performance for Josh Miller who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 5 assists. AZS Koszalin's coach Andrej Urlep tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Siarka Jezioro moved-up to third place in Group B. AZS Koszalin lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth position with 15 games lost. Siarka Jezioro will face PBG Basket (#6) in Poznan in the next round. AZS Koszalin will play at home against the league's leader Slask Wroclaw.

Other games in round 1 were not that significant.
In Group B PBG Basket was beaten by Polpharma on the road 84-76. Kotwica destroyed LKS Lodz on its own court 87-63. AZS PW unfortunately lost to Slask Wroclaw in a road game 63-76.
The most impressive performance of 1st round was 37 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds by J.J. Montgomery of AZS Koszalin.


Group Group A
Trefl Sopot - Zastal ZG 77-73

Undefeated Zastal ZG (1-1) recorded loss on the court of Trefl Sopot. Visitors were defeated by Trefl Sopot 77-73. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Zastal ZG. Trefl Sopot made 17-of-22 charity shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Zastal ZG 38-26 including 24 on the defensive glass. The former international guard Lukasz Koszarek (187-84) stepped up and scored 25 points for the winners and American power forward John Turek (205-83, college: Nebraska) chipped in 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Trefl Sopot players scored in double figures. At the losing side Ivorian-Puerto Rican point guard Walter Hodge (183-86, college: Florida) responded with 21 points and 9 assists and American center Kirk Archibeque (205-84, college: Fort Lewis, agency: Hart Sports Mngm) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. Despite that victory Trefl Sopot went down to third position (Group A) due to points difference, which they share with defeated Zastal ZG. Trefl Sopot will play against Anwil (#6) in Wloclawek in the next round. Zastal ZG will play at home against the league's leader Asseco Prokom in Gdynia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Very important is a home loss of PGE Turow (0-1) against Zastal ZG (1-1) on Saturday night. Host PGE Turow was defeated by Zastal ZG in Zgorzelec 91-73. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of PGE Turow. The game was mostly controlled by Zastal ZG. PGE Turow managed to win fourth quarter 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded PGE Turow 35-22 including 22 on the defensive glass. Very important is a road loss of Trefl Sopot (1-1) against Energa Czarni (1-0) on Sunday night. Visiting Trefl Sopot was defeated by Energa Czarni in a tough game in Slupsk 83-88. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Trefl Sopot. It was a key game for the top position in Group A. It looked good early as Trefl Sopot took an 4-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Energa Czarni had a 28-19 second period charge getting the lead and Trefl Sopot was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 83-88. American point guard Stanley Burrell (190-84) fired 27 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Canadian center Scott Morrison (212-86, college: Portland St.) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). The former international forward Filip Dylewicz (202-80) produced 21 points and the former international guard Lukasz Koszarek (187-84) added 16 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Energa Czarni keeps a position of Group A leader, which they share with Asseco Prokom. This time Polpharma used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Poznan 84-76 on Saturday night. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But PBG Basket won third quarter 25-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a very good performance for American guard Michael Hicks (193-83, college: Central Mo.) who helped to win the game recording 18 points. His fellow American import forward Jeremy Simmons (203-89, college: Charleston, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 14 points and 8 rebounds for the winners.
