   #1. This week's number one is an international center Marcin Gortat (211-84, currently plays in NBA). He was the major contributor in a Phoenix Suns' victory against the Charlotte Bobcats (3-3) 117-110 in the NBA in Wednesday night's game. Gortat had a double-double by scoring 23 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 7 blocks in 38 minutes on the court. The Phoenix Suns have 4-4 record this season. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Gortat has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 12.5ppg, 10.8rpg, 3.6bpg, 2FGP: 53.1% and FT: 66.7% in the eight games he played so far. Gortat is currently a member of the Polish senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international forward Michal Ignerski (207-80, agency: Stanley International, college: Mississippi St., currently plays in Italy). He led Banco di Sardegna Sassari to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Air Avellino (2-5) crushing them 102-81 in the Italian SerieA last Sunday. Ignerski recorded 15 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Banco di Sardegna Sassari (6-1) is placed second in the SerieA. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Ignerski has relatively good stats this year: 12.7ppg, 5.4rpg, 2FGP: 48.7%, 3FGP: 32.4% and FT: 75.0%. He is in the roster of the Polish senior national team.

   #3. The Polish player who performed third best last week abroad was former international guard David Logan (185-82, college: Indianapolis, currently plays in Israel). Logan contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider Galil Gilboa (0-5) crushing them 94-62 in the Israeli Winner League on Sunday night. He scored 9 points in 22 minutes. Maccabi Electra Tel-Aviv (4-1) is placed third in the Winner League. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. This year Logan has relatively solid stats: 14.2ppg, 2.6rpg, 3.2apg, 2FGP: 66.7%(14-21), 3FGP: 42.3% and FT: 71.4% in the five games. He is a naturalized American. Logan played for the Polish national team three years ago. He used to play for WTK Anwil Wloclawek in Polish league.

   #4. Power forward Maciej Lampe (211-85, currently plays in Euroleague), who plays in Spain could not help Caja Laboral (1-4) in their last game on Friday. Despite Lampe's good performance the sixth-placed Caja Laboral was defeated 76-69 on the road by the higher-ranked Cedevita (#5) in the group C of Euroleague. He scored 11 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Lampe has reliable stats this season: 11.6ppg and 3.8rpg. He has a dual citizenship: Polish and Swedish. Lampe is also Polish national team player.

   #5. International power forward Jakub Wojciechowski (210-90, currently plays in Italy) led Torino to an easy victory against the 12th-ranked Omegna (3-5) crushing them 90-70 in the Italian Nazionale A (third division) in Sunday night's game. He scored 19 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 31 minutes. PMS Torino (7-2) is placed third in the Nazionale A. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Wojciechowski has very impressive stats this year: 15.9ppg and 7.9rpg in the nine games. He is another player who holds two passports: Polish and Italian. Wojciechowski plays currently for the Polish national team.

Center Przemyslaw Karnowski (216-93, currently plays college basketball in the States) led Gonzaga to an easy victory against the Southern Utah University crushing them 103-65 in the NCAA last Friday. He recorded 22 points. The Gonzaga University has conference record this season. This year Karnowski has very high stats. He averages: 15.9ppg and 7.9rpg. Karnowski is an international player who is currently on the senior Polish National Team roster.

Former U20 international forward Olek Czyz (200-90, agency: Priority Sports, college: Nevada, currently plays in Italy) was not able to help one of league's weakest teams Lottomatica Roma (4-3) in their game against Montepaschi Siena (5-2) in the Italian SerieA. He cannot count Monday's game as one of the best ones. Czyz recorded only 3 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 15 minutes. Lottomatica Roma lost 70-81 in Siena to the higher-ranked (#4) Montepaschi. This year Czyz's overall stats are: 9.1ppg and 4.3rpg in the seven games. He used to play for the Polish U20 national team two years ago.

   #8. Center Szymon Szewczyk (209-82, currently plays in Italy) contributed to an Umana Venezia's victory against the closely-ranked Armani Milano (3-4) 105-100 in the Italian SerieA last Sunday. Szewczyk recorded 8 points in 24 minutes. Umana Reyer Venezia (3-4) is placed eighth in the SerieA. This year Szewczyk's total stats are: 6.2ppg and 4.6rpg in the five games. He plays currently for the Polish national team.

An experienced former international center Cezary Trybanski (218-79, currently plays in Lithuania) led Dzukija to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Meresta (7-4) 88-71 in the Lithuanian NKL (second division) on Saturday night. Trybanski recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 15 rebounds. Dzukija Alytus (6-3) is placed fifth in the NKL. It's Trybanski's first season with the team. Trybanski is currently first on the league's list of best rebounders and also on the list of best blockers (first place). He has very reliable stats this season: 12.6ppg, 11.3rpg and 4.4bpg. Trybanski used to play for the Polish national team eleven years ago.

   #10. Center Michal Hlebowicki (204-76, currently plays in Latvia) was not able to secure a victory for Jekabpils (2-5) in their game against Valmiera (5-2) in the Latvian LBL. He scored 8 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 27 minutes. Jekabpils was crushed 96-55 on the opponent's court by the second-ranked Valmiera. Hlebowicki is currently fifth on the list of best blockers with 0.9bpg. He also averaged so far 7.1ppg and 5.3rpg in the seven games. Hlebowicki is a former international player as ten years ago he still played for the Polish senior national team.

   #11. Former U18 international center Szymon Lukasiak (208-87, college: Jacksonville, currently plays in Sweden) led Nassjo to a victory against the closely-ranked White Eagles 80-71 in the Swedish Basketligan last Tuesday. He scored 14 points, had 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Lukasiak has averaged so far 8.3ppg and 5.3rpg. He used to play for the Polish U18 national team seven years ago.

   #12. Former U18 international center Pawel Mroz (215-84, currently plays in Czech Republic) couldn't help Basketbal Svitavy in their game against BK Decin in the Czech Republic NBL. Mroz scored 6 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 25 minutes. His team was badly defeated by 17 points 79-62. His stats this year are: 10.9ppg, 6.3rpg and 1.1apg in the 10 games. Mroz used to play for the Polish U18 national team back in 2002.


The list of other players, who all have Polish passport but never been selected to any of Polish national teams:

   #1. Konrad Wysocki (201-F-82, agency: Pro One Sports, college: Princeton, currently plays in EuroChallenge) led his German team EWE Baskets to an easy victory against the third-ranked Timisoara (1-1) 84-67 in the EuroChallenge last Tuesday. He scored 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 22 minutes. EWE Baskets Oldenburg (2-0) is placed first in group F. There are only four games left until the end of the EuroChallenge Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Wysocki's first season with the team. This year Wysocki's overall stats are: 8.5ppg and 6.0rpg in the two games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Polish and German.

   #2. Vitaliy Kovalenko (203-F-84, currently plays in EuroChallenge) contributed to a 3-point Khimik's victory against the fourth-ranked JDA Dijon (0-2) 76-73 in the EuroChallenge on Tuesday night. Kovalenko scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Khimik-OPZ Yuzny (2-0) is placed second in group D. There are only four games left until the end of the EuroChallenge Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. It's Kovalenko's first season with the team. His overall stats this year are: 7.5ppg, 4.5rpg and 1.5apg. Kovalenko is another player who holds two passports: Polish and Ukrainian.

   #3. Dominik Malinowski (198-SG-91, currently plays in Germany) contributed to an easy victory against the sixth-ranked Recklinghausen (3-4) crushing them 97-74 in the German ProB (third division) in Saturday night's game. Malinowski recorded 9 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. SG Schwelmer Baskets (6-1) is placed second in Group North. Malinowski's total stats this season are: 5.6ppg, 3.4rpg and 2.0apg. He has both Polish and German nationalities. Despite Malinowski's Polish passport, he previously played for the German U18 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Polish team.

   #4. Experienced Jose Mackiewicz (201-F-79, currently plays in Uruguay), who plays in the Uruguayan LUB could not help Tabare (7-9) to beat Bohemios (6-10). He cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. Mackiewicz recorded only 2 points. Tabare (#9) was badly defeated 91-74 at home by the lower-ranked Bohemios (#12) in the Capital group. It was Tabare's fourth consecutive loss in a row. Mackiewicz has averaged so far 2.8ppg and 1.2rpg. He also holds two passports: Polish and Uruguayan.

   #5. Marek Olesinski (203-F, currently plays college basketball in the States) managed to help U.S. Air Force Academy in a victory against the The Citadel 77-70 in the NCAA last Sunday. Olesinski scored only 2 points in 6 minutes on the court. The U.S. Air Force Academy has conference record this season. Olesinski has averaged so far 2.8ppg and 1.2rpg in the 12 games. He is a naturalized American. Strangely Olesinski has never played in Poland.

   #6. Daniel Motyka (180-G-92, currently plays in Sweden) contributed to an easy victory against the tenth-ranked Sanda Basket crushing them 119-68 in the Swedish Basketettan (second division) on Saturday night. He recorded only 2 points. Motyka has averaged so far 7.0ppg, 1.2rpg and 1.2spg.

   #7. Maciej Baginski (195-SF-95, currently plays in Iceland) was not able to help one of league's weakest teams Njardvik in their game against KR in the Icelandic Dominos League. He cannot count Friday's game as one of the best ones. Baginski scored only 2 points in 19 minutes. His team was badly defeated by 17 points 87-70. Baginski has averaged so far 7.0ppg and 3.2rpg in the six games. He has dual citizenship: Polish and Icelandic.   



PLK Round 19: Wilki Morskie defeat leader Stelmet - 7 hours ago
The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Stelmet (16-5) in Szczecin on Monday night. Visitors were defeated by tenth ranked Wilki Morskie (11-9) 84-77. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Stelmet. Wilki Morskie made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Taylor Brown (200-89, college: Bradley, agency: Three Eye Sports) who helped to win the game recording 31 points and 7 rebounds. Stelmet and Anwil will face in Polish Cup final. Both teams celebrated victories in the semis today. Stelmet overcame PGE Turow Zgorzelec 69-64. Armani Moore (193-F-94, college: Tennessee), Vladimir Dragicevic (206-C/F-86) and Thomas Kelati (195-G/F-82, college: Washington St., agency: BeoBasket) led the winners.
