Here is the weekly review of the top performing Polish players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Marcin Gortat (211-84, currently plays in NBA). He led Phoenix Suns to a victory over the Portland Trail Blazers (6-6) crushing them 114-87 in the NBA in Wednesday night's game. Gortat was MVP of the game. He scored 22 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 30 minutes on the court. The Phoenix Suns have 6-7 record this season. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Gortat has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 11.5ppg, 9.2rpg, 2.5bpg, 2FGP: 52.8% and FT: 70.4% in the 13 games he played so far. Gortat is currently a member of the Polish senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international forward Michal Ignerski (207-80, agency: Stanley International, college: Mississippi St., currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian SerieA. He could not help one of league's weakest teams Banco di Sardegna Sassari (6-2) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Ignerski's very good performance Banco di Sardegna Sassari was edged 85-84 on the road by the leading Cimberio Varese. He was the second best scorer with 19 points. But the season just started, so everything may happen. It's Ignerski's first year with the team. Ignerski has relatively good stats this season: 13.5ppg, 5.1rpg, 2FGP: 46.9%, 3FGP: 33.3% and FT: 77.3%. He is in the roster of the Polish senior national team.

Maciej Lampe

   #3. The Polish player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Maciej Lampe (211-85, currently plays in Spain), who plays in the Spanish ACB. Lampe was not able to help one of league's weakest teams one of league's weakest teams Caja Laboral (5-3) in their last game. Despite his good performance Caja Laboral lost 68-77 at home to the higher-ranked (#9) Blusens Monbus. Lampe was the second best scorer with 12 points. He also added 9 rebounds in 34 minutes. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. This year Lampe has relatively solid stats: 11.1ppg, 4.3rpg, 2FGP: 56.9%(33-58) and FT: 91.7% in the eight games. He has a dual citizenship: Polish and Swedish. Lampe is also a member of the Polish senior national team.

Jakub Wojciechowski

   #4. Power forward Jakub Wojciechowski (210-90, currently plays in Italy) was the main contributor in Torino's victory against the ninth-ranked Chieti (4-6) 77-61 in the Italian Nazionale A (third division) last Wednesday. Wojciechowski was the best player in that game. He scored 21 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, passed 3 assists and added 3 blocks in 28 minutes. PMS Torino (9-2) is placed second in the Nazionale A. It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. Wojciechowski has very impressive stats this year: 16.2ppg, 8.2rpg and 1.1spg in the 11 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Polish and Italian. Wojciechowski is also Polish national team player.

   #5. Former international guard David Logan (185-82, college: Indianapolis, currently plays in Euroleague) was not able to secure a victory for Maccabi T-A (5-2) in their game against Montepaschi Siena (4-3) in the Euroleague. He recorded only 4 points. The second-placed Maccabi T-A was edged 89-87 in Siena by the lower-ranked Montepaschi (#3) in the group B of Euroleague. There are only three games left until the end of the Euroleague Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Logan's overall stats this season are: 9.6ppg, 2.0rpg and 1.3apg. He is a naturalized American. Logan used to play for the Polish national team three years ago. He played also for WTK Anwil Wloclawek in Polish league.

   #6. Center Szymon Szewczyk (209-82, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Umana Venezia (3-5) in their game against Lottomatica Roma (5-3) in the Italian SerieA, despite his very good performance in Sunday night's game. Szewczyk scored 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 26 minutes. But Umana Venezia lost 67-75 in Roma to the higher-ranked (#5) Lottomatica. This year Szewczyk's overall stats are: 7.3ppg and 5.0rpg in the six games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Polish National Team roster.

   #7. International center Przemyslaw Karnowski (216-93, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to an easy victory against the University of South Dakota crushing them 96-58 in the NCAA on Sunday night. Karnowski recorded 20 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in a mere 19 minutes. The Gonzaga University has conference record this season. It's Karnowski's first year with the team. This year his total stats are: 8.7ppg and 2.5rpg in the 14 games. Karnowski is also Polish national team player.

   #8. An experienced center Michal Hlebowicki (204-76, currently plays in Latvia) contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Turiba (3-6) 91-75 in the Latvian LBL in Saturday night's game. He recorded 7 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. BK Jekabpils (3-6) is placed ninth in the LBL. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. It's Hlebowicki's first season with the team. Hlebowicki is ranked fifth on the list of the best blockers in the league. He has averaged so far 6.9ppg and 5.8rpg. Hlebowicki used to play for the Polish national team back in 2002.

   #9. Former international center Cezary Trybanski (218-79, currently plays in Lithuania) contributed to Dzukija's victory against the closely-ranked Suduva-Mantinga (9-4) 86-75 in the Lithuanian NKL (second division) last Friday. He had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 10 rebounds in 25 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Dzukija Alytus (9-3) is placed third in the NKL. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Trybanski is ranked first on the list of the best rebounders in the league and also on the list of best blockers (first place). He has very reliable stats this year: 11.8ppg, 10.6rpg and 3.8bpg in the 12 games. Trybanski used to play for the Polish national team eleven years ago.

   #10. Forward Karol Gruszecki (196-89, currently studies in the States) couldn't help the Texas Arlington in their game against the The University of Oklahoma (0-0) in the NCAA. Despite his very good performance on Friday night He scored 15 points. Gruszecki has reliable stats this season: 11.8ppg, 10.6rpg and 3.8bpg. He is a former U20 international player as four years ago he still played for the Polish national team.

   #11. Former U18 international center Szymon Lukasiak (208-87, college: Jacksonville, currently plays in Sweden) couldn't help Nassjo in their game against Boras Basket in the Swedish Basketligan, despite his good performance in Friday night's game. Lukasiak scored 11 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 22 minutes. But his team was badly defeated by 18 points 103-85. Lukasiak has averaged so far 8.5ppg and 5.8rpg in the 13 games. He used to play for the Polish U18 national team seven years ago.

   #12. Former U18 international center Pawel Mroz (215-84, currently plays in Czech Republic) couldn't help Basketbal Svitavy in their game against BC Kolin in the Czech Republic NBL. Mroz scored 5 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 25 minutes. His team lost 70-76. Mroz's stats this year are: 10.4ppg, 6.2rpg and 1.1apg in the 11 games. He used to play for the Polish U18 national team back in 2002.


The list of other players, who all have Polish passport but never been selected to any of Polish national teams:

   #1. Konrad Wysocki (201-F-82, agency: Pro One Sports, college: Princeton, currently plays in Germany), who plays in the German BBL could not help EWE Baskets (6-3) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his good performance EWE Baskets was crushed 96-66 on the road by the leading ratiopharm Ulm. Wysocki was the second best scorer with 14 points. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Wysocki's overall stats this season are: 7.6ppg and 3.3rpg. He has a dual citizenship: Polish and German.

   #2. Vitaliy Kovalenko (203-F-84, currently plays in Ukraine) contributed to an easy victory against the 11th-ranked Dnipro (4-10) crushing them 90-68 in the Ukrainian Superleague last Friday. Kovalenko scored 8 points. Khimik-OPZ Yuzny (11-3) is placed second in the Superleague. Kovalenko's total stats this season are: 8.7ppg and 2.5rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Polish and Ukrainian.

   #3. Experienced Jose Mackiewicz (201-F-79, currently plays in Uruguay) was not able to help Tabare (7-13) in their game against Malvin (17-3) in the Uruguayan LUB. Mackiewicz scored only 4 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Tabare (#13) was defeated 85-74 at home by the leading Malvin in the Capital group. It was Tabare's eighth consecutive loss in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Mackiewicz has averaged so far 2.9ppg and 1.5rpg. He has both Polish and Uruguayan nationalities.

   #4. Dominik Malinowski (198-SG-91, currently plays in Germany) managed to help SG Schwelmer Baskets to win against the second-ranked SC Rist Wedel (7-1) 91-78 in the German ProB (third division) in Saturday night's game. Malinowski scored only 4 points. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in Group North. SG Schwelmer Baskets (7-1) is placed first. Malinowski has averaged so far 5.4ppg, 3.1rpg and 2.0apg. He also holds two passports: Polish and German.

   #5. Jakub Kusmieruk (224-C-89, currently plays college basketball in the States) was not able to secure a victory for the Idaho St. in their game against the University of Utah in the NCAA. Kusmieruk recorded 6 points and blocked 2 blocks in only 6 minutes. The Idaho St. lost 46-57 in Salt Lake City, UT to the University of Utah. Kusmieruk has averaged so far 5.4ppg, 3.1rpg and 2.0apg in the eight games he played so far.

   #6. Patryk Bajtus (206-C-91, currently plays in Portugal) couldn't help Barcelos in their game against CAB Madeira in the Portuguese LPB. He scored only 4 points. It was his first game for Barcelos this season. His team was badly defeated by 18 points 94-76.

   #7. Daniel Motyka (180-G-92, currently plays in Sweden) contributed to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked Eskilstuna crushing them 86-58 in the Swedish Basketettan (second division) in Saturday night's game. Motyka scored only 4 points in 18 minutes. Motyka has averaged so far 6.0ppg and 1.6rpg in the eight games.

Legia Warszawa (1Liga) is about to tab 25-year old shooting guard Piotr Robak (194-91) who played last time at Astoria Bydgoszcz. In 31 1Liga games he was second best scorer with impressive 16.1ppg and recorded 3.9rpg, 3.3apg and 1.3spg last season. He can count that year as a very successful as was awarded Eurobasket.com All-Polish 1Liga Forward of the Year and selected to 1st Team. The previous (14-15) season Robak played at Polpharma (TBL). Krzywdzinski comes back to Polpharma - May 31, 2016

Polpharma Starogard Gdanski (TBL) strengthened their roster with addition of 21-year old forward Tomasz Krzywdzinski (200-95, agency: Octagon Europe). It is actually his comeback to Polpharma as he played here before. Krzywdzinski moved there from UKS Gimbasket 2 Przemysl in Polish 2Liga where he played this season. Polpharma Starogard Gdanski (TBL) agreed terms with 29-year old domestic center Karol Michalek (208-110kg-87, agency: Promotex). It is actually his comeback to Polpharma as he played here before.
