Grochowski's double-double lands him 1Liga Player of the Week award - Dec 4, 2012

Grzegorz
Grochowski
19-year old point guard Grzegorz Grochowski (178-PG-93) had an amazing evening in the last round for MKS DG and receives a Eurobasket.com 1Liga Player of the Week award for round 11.
He got a double-double of 12 points and 13 assists, while his team outclassed SKK Siedlce (#14, 3-8) with 30-point margin 96-66. MKS DG is placed at 4th position in Polish 1Liga. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. MKS DG will need more victories to improve their 7-4 record. It's Grochowski's second year at MKS DG and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Grochowski has impressive league stats. He is league's best passer with 7.5apg. Grochowski is in league's top in and averages solid 2.9spg and 56.0% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Pawel Kikowski (193-G-86, agency: Limelight Hoops) of top-ranked Slask Wroclaw. He is former international guard in his first season at Slask Wroclaw. In the last game Kikowski recorded impressive 25 points and 4 assists. Of course he lead Slask Wroclaw to another comfortable win outscoring slightly lower-ranked AZS Kutno (#2, 8-3) 96-55. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Slask Wroclaw consolidated its place in the very top position of the standings. His team belongs to top of the standings with 10-1 record and is considered one of the main candidates for the league title. Kikowski is a newcomer at Slask Wroclaw and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 16.3ppg (#4).

Third place about best performers goes to forward Przemyslaw Szymanski (198-F-84) of Znicz Basket (#10). Szymanski scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds. He was a key player of Znicz Basket, leading his team to a 73-65 win against the lower-ranked Start Lublin (#13, 4-7). The chances of Znicz Basket ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 6 games, recording just five victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Szymanski could help Znicz Basket to bring them higher in the standings. Szymanski has a great season in Poland. After 11 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 13.5ppg (9th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Dorian Szyttenholm (194-F-83) of Astoria Bydg. - 9 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists
5. Sebastian Laydych (203-F/C-87) of Astoria Bydg. - 14 points and 7 rebounds
6. Lukasz Biela (200-F-80) of AZS Radex - 19 points and 5 rebounds
7. Artur Busz (194-G-88) of UMKS Kielce - 18 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Wojciech Zurawski (199-F/C-76) of Stal Ostrow - 16 points and 9 rebounds
9. Adam Lisewski (206-F/C-80) of P.Cukier SIDEn - 11 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists
10. Pawel Zmarlak (195-F-82) of MKS DG - 9 points and 9 rebounds

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Siarka tabs rookie Alex Welsh in his first year in pro basketball - 1 day ago

Siarka Tarnobrzeg (TBL) landed American forward Alex Welsh (201-102kg). Welsh just graduated from Colorado Springs (NCAA2). He has played there for the last four years. In 29 games he averaged impressive 22.9ppg, 9.8rpg and 2.6apg last season. It was a very successful year in his career as he was selected to All-RMAC 1st Team.
