Ryan Wright
Eurobasket had the pleasure of sitting with Canadian big man Ryan Wright (206-C/F-87, college: Oklahoma). The player played 11 games for Anwil Wloclawek this season. He has just parted ways with the club.

Ryan thanks for sitting with us
Hello Eurobasket.com. Thanks for inviting me, I am glad and proud to talk with you.

How have you found this season in the Tauron Basket Liga? It was your first campaign in Poland.
I found that playing in the TBL has been a great experience for me and my development as a pro. Poland is a very competitive league with teams competing in cups across Europe as well as some really high level coaching and concepts. As well, the club I played for, Anwil Woclawek has one of the most dedicated and demanding fan bases in the whole country. So being able to play in that environment night in and night out requires a high level of focus and professionalism. It really gave me the experience of what it takes to play for a high level club.

You have played in many different leagues so far: Turkey, Venezuela, China, Ukraine.... how would you rank Polish TBL? Which one you enjoyed most and why?
In terms of competition I would rank it up there with leagues such as Ukraine and Venezuela definitely Leagues such as these sign players with great resumes and even NBA experience. I would say the style is very similar to Ukraine as well.

How do you like living in Wloclawek? What about the fans who are known as one of the best in the country?
Again, living in Wloclawek is like being in a college town, an experience I am used to from playing at the University of Oklahoma in my college days. All eyes are on you everywhere you go, people know what you do and news spreads quickly. This makes you more careful about what you do and how you represent the team. Fortunately we had a great group and didn't have to deal with any off court issues.

You're 25-year old player. What do you consider to be the strongest and the weakest point of your game? What can you really bring to a team?
I feel like the strengths of my game is my inside play and mid range game. Everywhere I played I have shot a really high percentage from the field in both low post and face-up situations. I try to use my athleticism and quickness to go around slower defenders to get my shot up. I feel that at this point in my career my weakness would be stretching the defense by knocking down the 3. I would like to really work on this and get to the point where I can add that to my game.

Could you tell us few words about the plans you have for the rest of the season? We've heard you would be interesting in joining back Taiwanese SBL?
There are many options about where to play next so over the next month we will consider every option and take our time to make the best choice. As of right now I am leaning on making a return to Taiwan to play in the SBL. Last season I had a very successful season there and was impressed by the professionalism of the clubs out there and how they take care of players.

PLK Round 3 of Semi-Finals: Torun writes its history! - 1 day ago
Stal Ostrow - Stelmet ZG 92-78 BM Slam Stal shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 54.2 percentage. It was a great evening for American point guard Aaron Johnson (173-88, college: UAB, agency: Two Points) who led his team to a victory scoring 17 points and 8 assists. His fellow American import swingman Marc-Antonio Carter (191-85, college: NC-Wilmington, agency: Interperformances) helped adding 18 points and 6 rebounds. The best for the losing side was the...   [read more]

Davis Lejasmeiers (ex Sodertalje) joins Krosno - 2 days ago
Miasto Szkla Krosno (PLK) agreed terms with 26-year old Latvian international guard Davis Lejasmeiers (192-84kg-91). He moved there from Sodertalje Kings in Swedish Basketligan where he played this season. In 47 Basketligan games he had 10.9ppg, 2.9rpg and 4.0apg. Lejasmeiers helped them to make it to the final. Quite impressive season as he was named to Eurobasket.com All-Swedish Basketligan Honorable Mention and All-Bosmans Team. Lejasmeiers also played 10 games in FIBA Europe Cup where...   [read more]
