The most exciting game of round 17 in the TBL took place in Zgorzelec. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of second-ranked Trefl Sopot (11-6) to first ranked PGE Turow (13-4) 77-75 on Friday evening. The hosts trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 18-10 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Naturalized French forward Aaron Cel (203-87) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 7 rebounds. The former international guard Michal Chylinski (190-86, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 16 points and 6 assists for the winners. PGE Turow's coach Miodrag Rajkovic used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Croatian power forward Sime Spralja (206-83, agency: Court Side) answered with 20 points and 8 rebounds for Trefl Sopot. PGE Turow have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 13-4 record. Trefl Sopot at the other side dropped to the third position with six games lost. They share it with Anwil and Asseco Prok.. PGE Turow are looking forward to face Start Gdynia (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Trefl Sopot will play against Rosa Radom (#12) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
Eighth-ranked Polpharma (7-10) was very close to win a game against fourth ranked Anwil (11-6) in Wloclawek. Anwil managed to secure only three-point victory 90-87. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Polpharma. The former international point guard Krzysztof Szubarga (182-84) stepped up and scored 28 points and 7 assists for the winners and Seid Hajric chipped in 19 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). American power forward Ben McCauley (206-86, college: N.Carolina St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Polpharma's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Anwil have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Asseco Prok. and Trefl Sopot. Polpharma at the other side keeps the eighth position with ten games lost. Anwil will play against Siarka Jezioro (#9) in Tarnobrzeg in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Polpharma will play at home against Kotwica in Kolobrzeg and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

However their fans expected much easier game. Lukasz Koszarek nailed 17 points and 7 assists for the winning side. Slavisa Bogavac came up with 13 points for Rosa Radom in the defeat. Rosa Radom's coach Wojciech Kaminski tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Anwil and Trefl Sopot. Rosa Radom lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. Asseco Prok. will meet at home Energa Czarni (#7) in the next round. Rosa Radom will play against Trefl Sopot (#5) and hope to secure a win.

Higher ranked AZS Koszalin lost to eleventh ranked Kotwica in a road game 76-88. American players dominated the game. The best player for the winners was Sean Mosley who scored 20 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. AZS Koszalin's coach Teo Cizmic let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Kotwica moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Start Gdynia. AZS Koszalin at the other side keeps the sixth position with eight games lost. Kotwica's next round opponent will be higher ranked Polpharma (#8) in Starogard and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
The game between seventh ranked Energa Czarni (9-8) and 9th ranked Siarka Jezioro (6-11) in Slupsk on Saturday ended with biggest points difference. Energa Czarni outscored guests from Tarnobrzeg 89-69. Levi Knutson orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points and 5 rebounds. Energa Czarni moved-up to sixth place, which they share with AZS Koszalin. Loser Siarka Jezioro keeps the ninth position with 11 games lost. Energa Czarni will face higher ranked Asseco Prok. (#4) in Gdynia in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Siarka Jezioro will play at home against Anwil (#3) in Wloclawek.

In the last game of round 17 Start Gdynia was beaten by Stelmet ZG on the road 80-67.


Kotwica - AZS Koszalin 88-76

Worth to mention about the upset in a game between AZS Koszalin (9-8) and Kotwica (5-12), which took place in Kolobrzeg. Higher ranked AZS Koszalin lost to eleventh ranked Kotwica in a road game 76-88. The game was mostly controlled by Kotwica. AZS Koszalin was better in third quarter 19-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kotwica shot 35 for 49 from the free-throw line, while AZS Koszalin only scored fourteen points from the stripe. Kotwica had a 29-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. 32 personal fouls committed by AZS Koszalin helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American players dominated the game. The best player for the winners was guard Sean Mosley (193-89, college: Maryland) who scored 20 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Guard Corey Jefferson (183-85, college: Texas St.) chipped in 24 points and 4 assists. Jefferson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Power forward Darrell Harris (208-84, college: Rhode Island) produced 17 points and 8 rebounds and forward Jeff Robinson (198-88, college: Seton Hall) added 18 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. AZS Koszalin's coach Teo Cizmic let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Kotwica moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Start Gdynia. AZS Koszalin at the other side keeps the sixth position with eight games lost. Kotwica's next round opponent will be higher ranked Polpharma (#8) in Starogard and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

Stelmet ZG - Start Gdynia 80-67

No shocking result in a game when second ranked Stelmet ZG (12-5) beat 10th ranked Start Gdynia (5-12) in Zielona Gora 80-67 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Stelmet ZG. Start Gdynia was better in third quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Stelmet ZG forced 20 Start Gdynia turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American-Georgian swingman Quinton Hosley (201-84, college: Fresno St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). The former international point guard Kamil Chanas (189-85) contributed with 16 points for the winners. Bosnian-Israeli center Robert Rothbart (217-86, agency: INVICTUS Sports Group) answered with 21 points and 9 rebounds and guard Michal Jankowski (192-87) added 14 points in the effort for Start Gdynia. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Stelmet ZG have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 12-5 record behind leader PGE Turow. Newly promoted Start Gdynia keeps the tenth position with 12 games lost. Stelmet ZG will face AZS Koszalin (#6) on the road in the next round. Start Gdynia will play against the league's leader PGE Turow (#1) in Zgorzelec.

American guard Xavier Alexander (198-88, college: S.Nazarene) answered with 11 points and 7 rebounds and forward Jakub Dloniak (192-83, agency: Promotex) added 18 points in the effort for Siarka Jezioro. Energa Czarni moved-up to sixth place, which they share with AZS Koszalin. Loser Siarka Jezioro keeps the ninth position with 11 games lost. Energa Czarni will face higher ranked Asseco Prok. Anwil - Polpharma 90-87

Eighth-ranked Polpharma (7-10) was very close to win a game against fourth ranked Anwil (11-6) in Wloclawek. Anwil managed to secure only three-point victory 90-87. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Polpharma. Polpharma was ahead by 3 points after three quarters before a 31-25 charge of Anwil, which allowed them to win the game. Polpharma was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international point guard Krzysztof Szubarga (182-84) stepped up and scored 28 points and 7 assists for the winners and naturalized Bosnian forward Seid Hajric (203-83) chipped in 19 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). American power forward Ben McCauley (206-86, college: N.Carolina St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import point guard Jawan Carter (180-87, college: Delaware) scored 14 points and 9 assists. Five Polpharma players scored in double figures. Polpharma's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Anwil have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Asseco Prok. and Trefl Sopot. Polpharma at the other side keeps the eighth position with ten games lost. Anwil will play against Siarka Jezioro (#9) in Tarnobrzeg in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Polpharma will play at home against Kotwica in Kolobrzeg and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The most exciting game of round 17 in the TBL took place in Zgorzelec. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of second-ranked Trefl Sopot (11-6) to first ranked PGE Turow (13-4) 77-75 on Friday evening. The hosts trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 18-10 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Naturalized French forward Aaron Cel (203-87) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 7 rebounds. The former international guard Michal Chylinski (190-86, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 16 points and 6 assists for the winners. PGE Turow's coach Miodrag Rajkovic used a ten-player rotation in such tough game.
