Pabian
The game between third ranked MKS DG (13-8) and tenth ranked Spojnia (10-11) was the most important one in the last round on Wednesday night. MKS DG was edged by Spojnia in a tough game in Dabrowa Gornicza 70-72. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But MKS DG won fourth quarter 14-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for forward Hubert Pabian (202-89, agency: Promotex) who led his team to a victory with 18 points. Guard Tomasz Stepien (193-86) contributed with 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Forward Michal Woloszyn (202-84) answered with 29 points and 6 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) for MKS DG. MKS DG's coach Wojciech Wieczorek rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Spojnia maintains tenth place with 10-11 record, which they share with Start Lublin. MKS DG at the other side keeps the third position with eight games lost. They share it with Sokol Lancut. Spojnia is looking forward to face higher ranked Znicz Basket (#6) in Pruszkow in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. MKS DG will play on the road against Astoria Bydg. in Bydgoszcz and is hoping to win this game.
Another interesting game for Znicz Basket (11-10) which hosted in Pruszkow against 4th placed MOSiR Krosno (12-9). Eighth ranked Znicz Basket had an easy win 65-54. Point guard Dominik Czubek (178-75) stepped up and scored 18 points for the winners and Przemyslaw Szymanski chipped in 14 points and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was point guard Kamil Laczynski (180-89) with 12 points, 8 assists and 4 steals. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Znicz Basket have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. MOSiR Krosno at the other side dropped to the fifth position with nine games lost. Znicz Basket will play against Spojnia (#10) in Stargard in the next round. MOSiR Krosno will play at home against UMKS Kielce (#15) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
1Liga top team - Slask Wroclaw (20-1) had no problems winning another game on Wednesday. This time they crushed fourteenth ranked SKK Siedlce (5-15) 83-58. Pawel Kikowski nailed 24 points for the winning side. Tomasz Deja came up with 11 points and 8 rebounds for SKK Siedlce in the defeat. SKK Siedlce's coach Wieslaw Gluszczak gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Slask Wroclaw have an impressive series of twenty victories in a row. They maintain first place with 20-1 record. SKK Siedlce lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth position with 15 games lost. Slask Wroclaw will meet at home Sokol Lancut (#4) in the next round. SKK Siedlce will play against Stal Ostrow (#8) in Ostrow Wlkp. and hope to secure a win.
Sixteenth-ranked AZS PP (3-17) used its home court advantage to challenge ninth ranked Polonia (11-10) in Pozoan. The visitors from Przemysl managed to secure only two-point victory 58-56. However their fans expected much easier game. The best player for the winners was Tomasz Zablocki who scored 18 points and 5 rebounds. AZS PP's coach Waldemar Mendel tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Polonia moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted AZS PP stay at the bottom position with 17 games lost. Polonia's next round opponent will be WIKANA Start (#11) in Lublin which should be theoretically an easy game. AZS PP will play on the road against P.Cukier SIDEn (#9) in Torun.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Stal Ostrow (11-10) and WIKANA Start (10-11), which took place in Lublin. Higher ranked Stal Ostrow was outleveled in a road game by eleventh ranked WIKANA Start 79-56 on Wednesday. It was a good game for Tomasz Celej who led his team to a victory with 25 points and 5 rebounds. Stal Ostrow's coach Mikolaj Czaja already knew that his team would not have a big chance, so allowed to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. WIKANA Start moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Spojnia. Stal Ostrow lost their sixth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the sixth position with ten games lost. WIKANA Start will face higher ranked Polonia (#7) in Przemysl in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
