   #1. This week's number one is an international center Marcin Gortat (211-84, currently plays in NBA). He led Phoenix Suns to a victory over the Memphis Grizzlies (31-18) 96-90 in the NBA in Tuesday night's game. Gortat was MVP of the game. He recorded 20 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 29 minutes on the court. The Phoenix Suns have not so impressive 17-34 record this season. Gortat has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 11.5ppg, 8.8rpg, 1.3apg, 1.7bpg, 2FGP: 53.5% and FT: 68.9% in the 51 games he played so far. Gortat is currently a member of the Polish senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international power forward Maciej Lampe (211-85, currently plays in Spain). He contributed to a Caja Laboral's victory against the closely-ranked Valencia Basket (12-8) 79-75 in the Spanish ACB last Sunday. Lampe scored 15 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Caja Laboral Vitoria (17-3) is placed second in the ACB. It was his team's tenth consecutive victory in a row. Lampe has relatively good stats this season: 13.1ppg, 5.3rpg, 2FGP: 54.3%, 3FGP: 33.3% and FT: 89.1%. He has a dual citizenship: Polish and Swedish. Lampe is in the roster of the Polish senior national team.

The Polish player who performed third best last week abroad was former U20 international forward Olek Czyz (200-90, agency: Priority Sports, college: Nevada, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian SerieA. He could not help Lottomatica Roma (12-6) in their last game. Despite Czyz's very good performance Lottomatica Roma was edged 96-93 on the road by the lower-ranked (#9) Trenkwalder RE. He scored 16 points, had 9 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 28 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Czyz's third season in pro basketball.They ended the series of five consecutive victories. It's Czyz's first year with the team. This season his overall stats are: 6.9ppg, 4.6rpg, 2FGP: 51.0%, 3FGP: 37.5% and FT: 42.9% in the 18 games. Czyz played for the Polish U20 national team three years ago.

   #4. Swingman Thomas Kelati (195-82, agency: Beo Basket, college: Washington St., currently plays in Spain) faced previously mentioned Maciej Lampe in the Spanish ACB last game. Kelati was not able to help Valencia Basket (12-8) in their game against Caja Laboral (17-3). He scored 9 points. But Valencia Basket was defeated 79-75 in Vitoria by the second-ranked Caja Laboral. It was Valencia Basket's fourth consecutive loss in a row. It's Kelati's first season with the team. This year Kelati has relatively solid stats: 10.7ppg, 2.3rpg, 1.7apg and 1.2spg. He is another player who holds two passports: Eritrean and Polish. Kelati is also Polish national team player.

An experienced international forward Michal Ignerski (207-80, agency: Stanley International, college: Mississippi St., currently plays in Italy) was not able to secure a victory for Banco di Sardegna Sassari (14-4) in their game against Cantu (12-6) in the Italian SerieA. He scored 9 points in 24 minutes. But Banco di Sardegna Sassari lost 80-94 on the opponent's court to the lower-ranked (#4) Cantu. It was Banco di Sardegna Sassari's first loss after three consecutive victories. Ignerski has reliable stats this year: 12.5ppg and 5.2rpg in the 18 games. He plays currently for the Polish national team.

   #8. Center Szymon Lukasiak (208-87, college: Jacksonville, currently plays in Sweden), who plays in the Swedish Basketligan couldn't help Nassjo (5-21) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Lukasiak's very good performance the bottom-ranked Nassjo was edged 91-88 at home by the higher-ranked Norrkoping Dolphins (#6). He was the top scorer with 26 points. Lukasiak also added 6 rebounds. Lukasiak's stats this season are: 10.3ppg and 5.2rpg. He used to play for the Polish U18 national team back in 2005.

Former U20 international forward Karol Gruszecki (196-89, currently studies in the States) helped Texas Arlington win their game against the Texas State University at San Marcos (3-9) crushing them 75-50 in the NCAA on Thursday night. Gruszecki scored 13 points and had 3 steals in a mere 18 minutes. The University of Texas at Arlington has 6-5 conference record this season. Gruszecki's stats this year are: 10.3ppg and 5.2rpg in the 25 games. He used to play for the Polish U20 national team five years ago.

Center Szymon Szewczyk (209-82, currently plays in Italy) managed to help Umana Reyer Venezia to win against one of league's weakest teams VL Pesaro (4-14) 71-68 in the Italian SerieA in Sunday night's game. Szewczyk scored only 3 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Umana Reyer Venezia (10-8) is placed seventh in the SerieA. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Szewczyk averaged so far 11.5ppg and 5.4rpg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Polish National Team roster.

   #11. U20 international forward Tomasz Gielo (206-93, is currently at the American university), who plays in the NCAA couldn't help the Liberty (4-6) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Gielo's good performance the Liberty was defeated 66-56 in Rock Hill, SC by the Winthrop University. He scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Gielo's total stats this season are: 8.1ppg and 2.8rpg. He plays currently for the Polish U20 national team.

   #12. Former U18 international center Pawel Mroz (215-84, currently plays in Czech Republic), who plays in the Czech Republic NBL couldn't help Basketbal Svitavy in their last game on Saturday. Despite his good performance the fifth-placed Basketbal Svitavy was defeated 85-80 in Kolin by the leading BC Kolin in the Group A2. Mroz recorded 12 points. Mroz averaged so far 15.0ppg and 6.7rpg. He used to play for the Polish U18 national team back in 2002.


The list of other players, who all have Polish passport but never been selected to any of Polish national teams:

   #1. Konrad Wysocki (201-F-82, agency: Pro One Sports, college: Princeton, currently plays in Germany) managed to help EWE Baskets Oldenburg in a victory against the closely-ranked ALBA Berlin (12-6) 82-67 in the German BBL last Sunday. Wysocki scored only 2 points in 22 minutes. EWE Baskets Oldenburg (13-6) is placed fourth in the BBL. This year Wysocki's total stats are: 7.4ppg and 3.6rpg in the 17 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Polish and German.

   #2. Marek Olesinski (203-F, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to a 3-point Air Force's victory against the San Diego State University (5-3) 70-67 in the NCAA on Saturday night. Olesinski scored 8 points. The U.S. Air Force Academy has a solid 5-3 conference record this season. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Olesinski's total stats this season are: 7.4ppg and 3.6rpg. He is a naturalized American. Strangely Olesinski has never played in Poland.

   #3. Vitaliy Kovalenko (203-F-84, currently plays in Ukraine) contributed to an overtime Khimik's victory against the closely-ranked Cherkasy (15-14) 93-87 in the Ukrainian Superleague in Friday night's game. He scored only 4 points in 20 minutes. Khimik-OPZ Yuzny (16-12) is placed fifth in the Superleague. This year Kovalenko's total stats are: 8.1ppg and 2.8rpg in the 28 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Polish and Ukrainian.

   #4. Patryk Bajtus (206-C-91, currently plays in Portugal) led Barcelos to an easy victory against the league outsider Galitos-Tley (2-11) 90-75 in the Portuguese LPB on Saturday night. Bajtus scored 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 34 minutes. Barcelos Hotel Terco (0-1) is placed in the LPB. This year Bajtus' total stats are: 4.3ppg and 4.3rpg in the seven games.

   #5. Dominik Malinowski (198-SG-91, currently plays in Germany) contributed to a SG Schwelmer Baskets' victory against the third-ranked Herten Lions (11-6) 74-70 in the German ProB (third division) in Saturday night's game. He scored 6 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished 5 assists. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in Group North. SG Schwelmer Baskets (16-1) is placed first. It was his team's 11th consecutive victory in a row. Malinowski's total stats this season are: 6.8ppg, 3.6rpg and 2.3apg. He has both Polish and German nationalities. Despite Malinowski's Polish passport, he previously played for the German U18 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Polish team.

   #6. Robert Lewandowski (208-F-89, college: Texas Tech, currently plays in Czech Republic) led BK Usti nad Labem to a victory against the leader B&W Opava 76-68 in the Czech Republic NBL last Saturday. Lewandowski recorded 12 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 20 minutes. Lewandowski averaged so far 13.7ppg, 4.8rpg and 1.3apg in the nine games. He is a naturalized American. Lewandowski used to play for PGE Turow Zgorzelec in Polish league.

   #7. Maciej Baginski (195-SF-95, currently plays in Iceland), who plays in the Icelandic Dominos League could not help Njardvik to beat Grindavik. Baginski scored 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 21 minutes. His team lost 84-96. This year Baginski's total stats are: 7.7ppg and 3.6rpg in the 15 games. He also holds two passports: Polish and Icelandic. Despite Baginski's Polish nationality, he currently plays for the Icelandic U18 national team and cannot be called to the Polish team.

   #8. Jakub Kusmieruk (224-C-89, currently studies in the States) was not able to help the Idaho St. in their game against the University of North Dakota in the NCAA. Kusmieruk scored only 4 points. His team was badly defeated by 17 points 69-52. Kusmieruk's total stats this season are: 7.7ppg and 3.6rpg.

KK Warszawa - AZS AWF Mick. 75-64 KK Warszawa held off AZS AWF Mickiewicz to advance into the semifinal stage. KK Warszawa dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to AZS AWF Mick.'s 28. It was a great evening for point guard Pawel Hybiak (173-89) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 9 rebounds and 12 assists. Experienced Former international Point guard Krzysztof Szubarga (178-PG-84) had a great game in the last round for Asseco and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 29.
