PLKK Round 21: Lider Pruszkow defeats BI SSA Gdynia in the closest game of the week - Feb 13, 2013

There will be only one (last) round of the Regular Season in PLKK.

Seventh-ranked BI SSA Gdynia (6-11) gave a tough game to fifth ranked Lider Pruszkow (11-6) on Wednesday. Lider Pruszkow managed to secure only two-point victory 58-56. However their fans expected easier game. BI SSA Gdynia was trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 19-14 charge of Lider Pruszkow, which allowed them to win the game. American point guard Sydney Colson (172-89, college: Texas A&M) stepped up and scored 12 points and 6 assists for the winners and international point guard Anna Pietrzak (167-87) chipped in 9 points and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was American point guard Lorin Dixon (162-89, college: Connecticut, agency: Merit Sports) with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Lider Pruszkow have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Energa Torun. BI SSA Gdynia lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 11 games lost. Lider Pruszkow is looking forward to face Energa Torun (#4) on the road in the next round. BI SSA Gdynia will play against the league's second-placed Artego Bydg. in Bydgoszcz and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.

Nigerian-American power forward Nnemkadi Ogwumike (189-90, college: Stanford) nailed 30 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and Belinda Snell accounted for 20 points and 6 rebounds. CCC Polkowice's coach Jacek Winnicki felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Nicole Michael (188-87, college: Syracuse) came up with 13 points for Energa Torun in the defeat. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for CCC Polkowice. They maintain first place with 16-1 record. Energa Torun at the other side keeps the fourth position with six games lost. They share it with Lider Pruszkow. CCC Polkowice will play against Wisla Can-Pak (#3) in Krakow in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Energa Torun will play at home against Lider Pruszkow and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked PTK Pabianice (0-17) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 17th consecutive match to third ranked Wisla Can-Pak (14-3) 83-56 on Wednesday evening. The best player for the winners was Erin Phillips who scored 26 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Dorota Sobczyk who recorded 14 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Wisla Can-Pak. Defending champion maintains third place with 14-3 record having just two points less than leader CCC Polkowice. PTK Pabianice lost their seventeenth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings. Wisla Can-Pak will meet at home league's leader CCC Polkowice in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. PTK Pabianice will play against AZS Rzeszow (#10) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

In the last two games of round 21 Gorzow was destroyed by Artego Bydg. on the opponent's court 88-66. Widzew outscored AZS Rzeszow in a home game 78-53.


CCC Polkowice - Energa Torun 78-52

The game between Top Four teams took place in Polkowice. First ranked host CCC Polkowice (16-1) smashed 4th placed Energa Torun (11-6) 78-52. It looked good early as Energa Torun took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then CCC Polkowice had a 26-10 second period charge getting the lead and Energa Torun was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 52-78. CCC Polkowice made 19-of-22 charity shots (86.4 percent) during the game. CCC Polkowice outrebounded Energa Torun 37-22 including 27 on the defensive glass. Nigerian-American power forward Nnemkadi Ogwumike (189-90, college: Stanford) nailed 30 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and Australian Belinda Snell (181-81) accounted for 20 points and 6 rebounds. Very expected game in Bydgoszcz where 6th ranked AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski (7-10) was crushed by second ranked Artego Bydg. (15-2) 88-66 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Artego Bydg.. AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski managed to win fourth quarter 21-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Artego Bydg. forced 26 AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Elzbieta Mowlik (180-83, agency: Data Plus Group) who scored 23 points. American guard Julie McBride (165-82, college: Syracuse) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points, 15 assists and 5 steals. Five Artego Bydg. players scored in double figures. Widzew - AZS Rzeszow 78-53

Everything could happen in Lodz at the game between two tied teams. Both tenth ranked Widzew and 9th ranked AZS Rzeszow had identical 2-14 record. This time Widzew used a home court advantage and smashed the opponent from Rzeszow 78-53 on Wednesday night. The game without a history. Widzew led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to AZS Rzeszow's 24. Widzew forced 21 AZS Rzeszow turnovers. The best player for the winners was Czech center Leona Jankowska (190-77) who scored 21 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Aleksandra Pawlak (189-84) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. Four Widzew players scored in double figures. Coach Elzbieta Trzesniewska's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest.
