1Liga Round 25: MKS DG defeats WIKANA Start in the closest game of the week - Feb 24, 2013

The teams have now bigger motivation at this stage of Regular Season. Every game can be crucial and decide about teams' position at the end of Regular Season.

The most exciting game of round 25 in the 1Liga took place in Dabrowa Gornicza. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 8th ranked WIKANA Start (13-12) to fourth ranked MKS DG (15-10) 84-83 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of WIKANA Start. WIKANA Start was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 7-point lead after three quarters before a 27-19 charge of MKS DG, which allowed them to win the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when MKS DG made 7 blocks. Forward Pawel Zmarlak (195-82) stepped up and scored 11 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and forward Michal Woloszyn (202-84) chipped in 17 points. At the losing side power forward Marcel Wilczek (204-86, agency: Promotex) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. MKS DG moved-up to third place. WIKANA Start at the other side dropped to the sixth position with 12 games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. MKS DG are looking forward to face SKK Siedlce (#14) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. WIKANA Start will play against Znicz Basket (#11) in Pruszkow and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked MOSiR Krosno (14-11) against eleventh ranked P.Cukier SIDEn (13-12) on Saturday night. Visiting MOSiR Krosno was defeated by P.Cukier SIDEn in a tough game in Torun 66-74. Guard Jacek Jarecki (197-88) nailed 24 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winning side and Lukasz Zytko accounted for 15 points and 4 assists. point guard Kamil Laczynski (180-89) came up with 11 points and 5 assists for MOSiR Krosno in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. P.Cukier SIDEn moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 4 other teams. MOSiR Krosno at the other side dropped to the fourth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Sokol Lancut. P.Cukier SIDEn will play against Spojnia (#7) in Stargard in the next round. MOSiR Krosno will play at home against AZS Radex in Szczecin and hopes to get back on the winning track.
1Liga top team - Slask Wroclaw (24-1) managed to deliver another win on Saturday. This time they beat sixteenth ranked UMKS Kielce (4-22) 90-79. Radoslaw Hyzy fired 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Lukasz Fafara produced 19 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for lost side. UMKS Kielce's coach Rafal Gil rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Slask Wroclaw have an impressive series of twenty four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 24-1 record. UMKS Kielce lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 22 lost games. Slask Wroclaw will meet at home league's second-placed AZS Kutno in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. UMKS Kielce will play against Stal Ostrow (#6) in Ostrow Wlkp. and hope to secure a win.

Spojnia at the other side dropped to the sixth position with 12 games lost. AZS PP's next round opponent will be higher ranked Astoria Bydg. (#13) in Bydgoszcz and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
An interesting game took place in Lancut where higher ranked Sokol Lancut (14-11) was upset on its own court by fourteenth ranked SKK Siedlce (7-17) 68-64 on Saturday. Przemyslaw Lewandowski stepped up and scored 14 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. SKK Siedlce maintains fourteenth place with 7-17 record. Loser Sokol Lancut dropped to the fourth position with 11 games lost. SKK Siedlce will face higher ranked MKS DG (#3) in Dabrowa Gornicza in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sokol Lancut will play on the road against Polonia in Przemysl.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 25: Polonia lost to AZS Radex on the opponent's court 69-80. AZS Kutno managed to outperform Astoria Bydg. in a home game 93-84. Stal Ostrow recorded a loss to Znicz Basket on the road 82-74.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 17 points and 7 assists by Michal Musijowski of Polonia.



AZS Radex - Polonia 80-69

Everything could happen in Szczecin at the game between two tied teams. Both tenth ranked AZS Radex and 11th ranked Polonia had identical 12-12 record. This time AZS Radex used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Przemysl 80-69 on Sunday night. The game was mostly controlled by AZS Radex. Polonia was better in fourth quarter 26-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. AZS Radex outrebounded Polonia 38-23 including 27 on the defensive glass. Point guard Lukasz Pacocha (182-82, agency: Promotex) stepped up and scored 15 points and 8 assists for the winners and swingman Krzysztof Mielczarek (198-81) chipped in 11 points and 10 rebounds. Four AZS Radex players scored in double figures. AZS Radex's coach Zbigniew Majcherek used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side point guard Michal Musijowski (180-89) responded with 17 points and 7 assists and guard Tomasz Przewrocki (192-76) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for AZS Radex. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Polonia keeps the eleventh position with 13 games lost. AZS Radex will face higher ranked MOSiR Krosno (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Polonia will play against Sokol Lancut (#5).

Astoria Bydg. was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 32-19 charge of AZS Kutno, which allowed them to win the game. They made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. AZS Kutno outrebounded Astoria Bydg. 41-24 including a 16-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Point guard Dawid Brek (185-89, agency: Promotex) stepped up and scored 29 points and 6 assists for the winners and forward Jakub Dluski (200-87) chipped in 15 points and 16 rebounds.
