Porto have claimed the Portuguese Cup title after a year pause. The Dragons held off Ovarense for the trophy. Nuno Marcal (205-F-75) scored 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to lead Porto. Gregory Stempin (203-F-79, agency: Duran International, college: Toledo) added 11 points and 11 rebounds and was trumped the MVP.
Porto stormed into the encounter as they accounted for 10 straight points at the start. The Dragons dominated in the opening stanza and earned a 19:10 lead at the first break. John Waller (193-F-82, college: ODU) stepped up for Ovarense in the second period to keep them in the game. Porto arrived at halftime leading by 10 points 41:31. Ovarense finally adjusted their defence as they limited Porto to 10 points in the third quarter. Ovarense came as close as three points 48:51 with one stanza remaining. Ovarense drew things level at 59 midway through the fourth quarter. However Joao Figueiredo fired twice from behind the arc to retain the lead for Porto. Shawn Jackson (203-F/C-71, college: Johnson C. Smith) and John Waller kept the intrigue alive with their long bombs. Gregory Stempin stepped up for Porto to give the Dragons a 4-point lead. Shawn Jackson exploded with a triple but could not rescue Ovarense as Porto hung on to win the battle.
Jeremy Hunt (196-G-83, agency: Buck Andre, college: Memphis) and Julian Terrell (206-F-84, agency: Hart Sports Mngm, college: Vanderbilt) provided 13 points each for Porto. John Waller responded with 26 points for Ovarense. Shawn Jackson had 9 points in defeat.

South edge North in All-Star Game - Feb 17, 2010

Team South narrowly Team North in a highly entertaining LPB All-Star Game. The event took place in the town of Guarda. The game itself was preceded by Slam Dunk Contest. Raheem Moss, Jabyron Wilson (202-F/C-87, agency: GOTathletes, college: Elizabeth City) and Rod Nealy (198-F-80, agency: Gross Zeev ISA, college: Houston Baptist) participated at the contest. Rod Nealy showed his best skills to be crowned the Slum Dunk contest king.
Team North looked just better at the start of the encounter. They earned a 30:26 lead at the first intermission. But the South quickly erased the deficit and rallied to a 59:55 advantage at halftime. Led by Austen Powers (203-F-87, agency: Tank Sports, college: Seattle) Team South extended the margin at 12-point mark with ten minutes remaining. Team North went on a rescue mission in the fourth term. They outgunned their opponents as John Waller (193-F-82, college: ODU) took the floor. Team North surged in front but Austen Powers hit a late three-pointer to propel Team South to a narrow victory.
Austen Powers finished with 25 points and 6 boards to lead Team South. Diogo Carreira (180-G-78) netted 14 points in the winning effort. John Waller exploded with 46 points and 11 boards to pace Team North. He was trumped the MVP of the clash. Rod Nealy netted 18 points in the loss.
Nate Daniels ensured the victory at the Three-Point Shootout. He overcame Mario Fernandes for the trophy.

Porto clinched the first trophy of the season. They outscored Ovarense to claim the LPB Hugo dos Santos Cup. Julian Terrell (206-F-84, agency: Hart Sports Mngm, college: Vanderbilt) scored 17 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to pace the Moncho Lopes outfit.
The first frame was a close battle. Neither side was able to mount a decisive lead. Ovarense however managed a 21:20 lead at the first break. Porto adjusted their defence in the second period and triggered a comeback effort. Porto limited Ovarense to just 10 points and surged ahead. Porto arrived at the interval leading by 7 points 38:31. Ovarense could not bounce back and lagged behind in the third frame. Porto enjoyed a 14-point advantage with ten minutes remaining in the final. Things did not change drastically in the fourth period. Ovarense accounted for just 10 points in the final frame and had to surrender at the end. Carlos Andrade (197-F-78, college: Queens (NC)) knocked down 15 points and dished out 6 assists for Porto. Rui Mota (190-G/F-78) had 11 points for the winners. John Waller (193-F-82, college: ODU) responded with 15 points for Ovarense. Christopher Lee (206-C, college: S.Carolina St.) added 11 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.

Benfica clinch SuperCup title - Dec 8, 2009

Benfica claimed the Portuguese SuperCup title. They held off Ovarense for the trophy tonight. The teams clashed in Algarve and Benfica celebrated a confident win at the end. Benfica got to a slightly better start. They ensured a 15:13 lead ten minutes into the encounter. Ovarense however quickly bounced back and won the second period. Ovarense headed into the dressing room leading by two points 28:26. However Will Frisby (203-F/C-81, agency: Edge Sports, college: Miami, FL) helped Benfica to change things around in the third stanza. Benfica limited their opponents to 10 points in the third quarter and fired ahead to build a 46:38 advantage at the final break. The teams exchanged baskets throughout the intense fourth quarter but Benfica did not let the lead slip away.
Will Firsby knocked down 21 points and grabbed 6 boards to lead Benfica. Ben Reed (191-G/F-83, college: W.Michigan) added 12 points, while Sergio Ramos (200-F-76) netted 11 points for the winning side. Christopher Lee (206-C, college: S.Carolina St.) responded with 16 points for Ovarense. Miguel Miranda (205-F-78) had 15 points in defeat.
