Goncalves number one in Portugal for round 12 - Jan 12, 2012

Brazilian forward Lilian Goncalves (186-F-79) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for second-ranked AD Vagos, receiving a Player of the Week award for round 12.
The 32-year old player was the main contributor (34 points) to her team's victory, helping them to outclass AFC-Liberty S. (#7, 5-7) with 33-point margin 102-69. AD Vagos maintains the 2nd position in Portuguese Liga Feminina. AD Vagos has a very good season and are considered to have a run for the championship title. They improved their record to 11-1. In the team's last game Goncalves had a remarkable seven three-pointers out of 8 attempts. It's her second year at AD Vagos and it's hard to imagine this team without her. Lilian Goncalves averages this season 15.7ppg.

The second best player in last round's games was -year old American Jheri Booker (183-F) of CAB Madeira. Booker had a very good evening with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds. Of course CAB Madeira cruised to a 59-49 relatively comfortable win over slightly lower-ranked Lombos Quinta (#6, 6-6). CAB Madeira's 5th position in the standings has not changed. Her team lost some distance to top teams. But 8-4 record is not bad and everything may still change. Booker is a newcomer at CAB Madeira, but is already one of team's top players. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 22.1ppg (#1). She also registered 7.4 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was American guard Donica Cosby (172-G-88) of AFC-Liberty S. (#7). Cosby got into 30-points club by scoring exactly 30 points in the last round. Despite Cosby's great performance AFC-Liberty S. lost 69-102 to the higher-ranked AD Vagos (#2, 11-1). But her team cannot count on just a single shooter as she also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of AFC-Liberty S. ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 7 games, recording just five victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Cosby could help AFC-Liberty S. to bring them higher in the standings. Cosby has a very solid season. In 10 games in Portugal she scored 14.4ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Ta-Myra Davis (185-F/C-87) of Montijobanda - 16 points and 17 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
