The Azzurri went on a 22:9 run to take a comfortable lead. Italy held Portugal to just 10 points in the second quarter to boost the lead. The visitors accumulated a 38:19 halftime advantage. Portugal improved their offence in the third term. They scored 23 points to narrow the gap at 17-point mark. Portugal unleashed 28 points in the fourth frame but just trimmed the deficit at the end. Academica escaped the elimination eding Benfica in overtime and remained in the title race. The teams will meet again tomorrow in the fourth game of the championship series. Benfica was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 5-point lead after three quarters before a 15-10 charge of Academica, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time.
