We bring you last week's top performances from Portuguese players who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced international guard Philippe Da Silva (192-79, currently plays in France), who plays in the French ProB (second division). He could not help SPO Rouen (2-3) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Da Silva's very good performance SPO Rouen was edged 94-91 on the road by the lower-ranked Saint Vallier (#16). He scored 16 points, had 5 rebounds and dished 9 assists. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Da Silva is currently sixth on the list of best passers. This season he averages: 6.4ppg, 3.4rpg, 4.8apg, 2FGP: 14.3% and FT: 75.0%. Da Silva has a dual citizenship: Portuguese and French. Despite he played previously for the French national team, Da Silva is currently a member of the Portuguese senior national team.

Diego Cavaco

   #2. Second place goes to an international forward Diego Cavaco (200-79, currently plays in Argentina). He contributed to an Union Progresista's victory against the eighth-ranked La Union (1-10) 70-65 in the Argentinian LigaA on Sunday night. Cavaco recorded 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 27 minutes. Union Progresista (3-8) is placed seventh in North group. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. It's Cavaco's first year with the team. This season his overall stats are: 8.1ppg, 3.1rpg, 2FGP: 39.3%, 3FGP: 37.8% and FT: 69.2% in the nine games he played so far. Cavaco is another player who holds two passports: Portuguese and Argentinian. Despite he played previously for the Argentinian national team, Cavaco is currently a member of the Portuguese senior national team.

Mario Fernandes

   #3. The Portuguese player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Mario Fernandes (176-82, currently plays in Sweden), who plays in the Swedish Basketligan. He was not able to help KFUM Jamtland (0-0) in their last game on Friday. Despite Fernandes' good performance KFUM Jamtland was defeated 75-71 in Uppsala by the higher-ranked Basket (#4). He was the second best scorer with 13 points. Fernandes also added made 4 passes and 3 steals. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Fernandes belongs to league's most steals and is ranked #4. His total stats this season are: 9.0ppg, 3.4rpg, 3.6apg, 2.0spg, 2FGP: 22.7%, 3FGP: 42.9%. Fernandes played for the Portuguese national team years ago.

Robert Fultz

   #4. Point guard Robert Fultz (189-82, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Italy) managed to help Enel Brindisi in a victory against the league outsider Vanoli Cremona (0-3) 78-69 in the Italian SerieA last Sunday. He scored only 4 points in 21 minutes. Enel Brindisi (1-2) is placed 12th in the SerieA. . This year Fultz's total stats are: 5.7ppg, 2.0apg and 1.3spg in the three games. He has both Portuguese and Italian nationalities. Fultz used to play for the Portuguese national team earlier this year.

   #5. Former international point guard Nuno Pedroso (187-79, also represented by Interperformances, currently plays in United Kingdom), who plays in the British BBL was not able to secure a victory for London Lions (1-4) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his good performance London Lions was defeated 89-83 in Leicester by the much higher-ranked Riders (#3). Pedroso scored 11 points. . Pedroso has averaged so far 6.5ppg, 2.3rpg and 1.8apg. He used to play for the Portuguese national team eleven years ago.

   #6. Power forward Fernando Raposo Laurencio (206-89, currently plays in France) couldn't help Entente Orleans 45 (0-2) in their game against Cholet (1-1) in the French ProA. Raposo Laurencio scored only 4 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 15 minutes. The bottom-ranked Entente Orleans 45 lost 78-84 on the opponent's court to the much higher-ranked (#8) Cholet. . It's Raposo Laurencio's first season with the team. He has averaged so far 5.5ppg, 3.5rpg and 1.5apg in the two games. Raposo Laurencio is a former international player as he played for the Portuguese senior team eleven years ago.

   #7. U20 international swingman Jonah Callenbach (194-93, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Fontedoso Carrefour (0-1) in their game against Lan Mobel ISB (1-0) in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division). He recorded 5 points. It was his first game for Fontedoso Carrefour this season. Fontedoso Carrefour was edged 74-73 in Azpeitia by the higher-ranked Lan Mobel ISB (#4). . Callenbach used to play for the Portuguese U20 national team earlier this year.

David Torres
David Torres
   #8. Swingman David Torres (188-83, currently plays in Luxembourg) couldn't help Contern (2-2) in their game against Etzella (4-0) in the Luxembourg Diekirch League. He recorded 5 points in 10 minutes. Contern was badly defeated 87-67 at home by the leading Etzella. . Torres has been at the team for seven years. This season Torres averages only 3.0ppg in the four games. He used to play for the Portuguese national team earlier this year.


One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Portuguese passport:

   #1. Maris Gulbis (202-F-85, currently plays in Baltic League), who plays in Latvia could not help Barons kvartals (2-1) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the second-placed Barons kvartals was crushed 88-57 on the road by the leading Rudupis in the group C of Baltic League. Gulbis had a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 10 rebounds in 31 minutes. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Gulbis' first year with the team. Gulbis is currently first on the list of top scorers and also on the list of best rebounders (fourth place). He has individually a very good year with high stats. Gulbis averages: 19.3ppg, 8.7rpg and 1.7apg in the three games he played so far.

Grosey's double-double lands him (Second Stage) Player of the Week award - 3 days ago
Forward Stephen Grosey (201-F) had a great game in the last round for Galitos-Barreiro and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 4 (Second Stage). He had a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds, while his team crushed Illiabum (#6, 12-14) with 19-point margin 80-61. Galitos-Barreiro maintains the 5th position in Portuguese league. 25-year old point guard Deshaunt Walker (180-PG-91) had a great game in the last round for Angra (they play in Places 9-16) and receives a Eurobasket.com Proliga Player of the Week award for round 9 (Second Stage). He had the game-high 39 points adding four rebounds and seven assists for Angra in his team's victory, helping them to edge out Sangalhos (#13, 4-4) 100-98. The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked FC Porto Ferpinta (21-5) in Guimaraes on Saturday night. Visitors were edged by fourth ranked Vitoria SC (19-7) 78-76. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of FC Porto Ferpinta. Vitoria SC looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists.
