There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in Proliga.

Terceira - Guifoes 47-99

The game with biggest result difference took place in Angra Heroismo. Local Terceira (0-2) was outscored by Guifoes (2-0) 99-47. The game was mostly controlled by Guifoes. Terceira was better in second period 22-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Terceira to just 4 points in first quarter. Guifoes forced 22 Terceira turnovers and outrebounded them 32-20 including 21 on the defensive glass. Forward Jose Almeida (199-86) notched 18 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort and forward Fabio Fernandes (201-86) supported him with 16 points and 4 assists. Four Guifoes players scored in double figures. Guifoes' coach Paulo Fidalgo felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds by American center Chano Rashiduddin (208, college: Clark Atlanta) did not help to save the game for Terceira. Forward Thiago Tomassi (193) added 7 points for the hosts.

Angra - Leca 67-62

Leca (1-1) recorded its first loss on the court of Angrabasket on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by Angrabasket 67-62. The hosts trailed by 9 points at the halftime before their 43-29 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was forward Alvaro Pontes (190-85) who scored 21 points and 9 rebounds. Angolan forward Joao Gaspar (196-89) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds. Aylton Vieira produced 20 points and 9 rebounds and Gonzalo Ranito added 8 points and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Leca's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help.

Oliveirense - Ginasio 88-51

There was no surprise in Oliveira where Ginasio (0-1) was crushed by Oliveirense (2-0) 88-51. The game without a history. Oliveirense led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Ginasio to just 7 points in third quarter. Oliveirense forced 22 Ginasio turnovers and outrebounded them 40-26 including 29 on the defensive glass. Center Andre Pereira (200-90) notched a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead the effort and swingman Renato Azevedo (186-91) supported him with 26 points and 5 rebounds. Four Oliveirense players scored in double figures. Even 12 points and 5 assists by guard Tiago Barreiro (187-83) did not help to save the game for Ginasio. Naturalized Cape Verdean forward Joaquim Soares (198-83) added 10 points and 6 rebounds for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest.

Electrico FC - Sangalhos 71-76

Very important is a home loss of Electrico FC (1-1) against Sangalhos (1-1) on Saturday night. Host Electrico FC was defeated by Sangalhos in a tough game in Ponte de Sor 71-76. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Electrico FC won third quarter 17-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sangalhos forced 19 Electrico FC turnovers. Strangely Electrico FC outrebounded Sangalhos 39-20 including a 27-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Swingman Emanuel Silva (188-79) scored 15 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Nuno Bizarro (192-80) chipped in 20 points during the contest. Four Sangalhos players scored in double figures. Guard Tiago Pinto (183-88) responded with 26 points and 4 assists (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!) and forward Aylton Medeiros (194-88) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Maia Basket - Illiabum 66-56

No shocking result in a game when Maia Basket (2-0) defeated at home Illiabum (0-2) 66-56. The game without a history. Maia Basket led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. It was a great shooting night for Maia Basket especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.0 percentage. Maia Basket brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. The former international forward Nuno Marcal (205-75) notched a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 6 blocks to lead the effort and guard Pedro Catarino (184-90) supported him with 17 points and 5 assists. Even a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds by swingman Tiago Raimundo (194-90) did not help to save the game for Illiabum. International Miguel Queiroz (202-91) added 14 points and 7 rebounds for the guests.

Terceira was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from 63-57. The guests were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. Aylton Vieira notched 12 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and Gonzalo Ranito supported him with 13 points. Leca's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 18 points by forward Frederico Tavares (194-88) did not help to save the game for Terceira. American center Chano Rashiduddin (208, college: Clark Atlanta) added 8 points and 9 rebounds for the hosts.

Another exciting game was between Guifoes and Angrabasket where Guifoes (2-0) crushed Angrabasket (1-1) on the road with 27-point difference 93-66. Guifoes led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Angrabasket's 34. Guifoes players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Center Joao Moreira (200-85) orchestrated the victory by scoring 27 points and 5 rebounds. Power forward Joao Torrie (200-91) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Five Guifoes players scored in double figures. Forward Alvaro Pontes (190-85) replied with 27 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and Angolan forward Joao Gaspar (196-89) added 15 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Angrabasket.

NBL Canada newcomer Kitchener-Waterloo Titans (NBL Canada) landed 26-year old American power forward George Blakeney (206-116kg-91, college: UNC Pembroke). 23-year old guard Alex Marzette (196-G-93) had an amazing evening in the last round for CAB Madeira and receives a Court Side Player of the Week award for round 21. He had the game-high 27 points adding three rebounds and four assists for CAB Madeira in his team's victory, helping them to crush Lusitania (#9, 5-16) with 17-point margin 96-79. Marco Goncalves gets MVP of the Week award for Portuguese Proliga (Second Stage) - by Court Side - 4 days ago
Experienced Former international Center Marco Goncalves (206-C-84) had a very impressive game in the last round for Ginasio (they play in Places 9-16) and that's him to receive a Court Side Proliga Player of the Week award for round 5 (Second Stage). The 32-year old center had a double-double of 25 points and sixteen rebounds, while his team lost the game against Fisica (#13, 2-3) 78-84.
