There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in LPB.

Lusitania - Galitos-Tley 60-66

The most surprising game was the first loss of Lusitania (1-1) in Angra on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by Galitos-Tley (1-1) 66-60. Lusitania trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 18-10 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 60-66 at the end of the game. The former international point guard Pedro Pinto (188-88) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points. American forward Perry Stevenson (206-87, college: Kentucky) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. American center Marcel Momplasir (205-81, college: Rhode Island) replied with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and guard Augusto Sobrinho (188-85) added 18 points in the effort for Lusitania. Galitos-Tley is looking forward to face Barcelos at home in the next round. Lusitania will play against Ovarense and is hoping to win this game.

Sampaense - Vitoria SC 75-76

A very close game took place in Coimbra between Vitoria SC and Sampaense. Vitoria SC (2-0) got a very close victory on the road over bottom-ranked Sampaense (0-1). Vitoria SC managed to escape with a 1-point win 76-75 on Saturday evening. The guests trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they rallied back winning next two quarters and won the game by 1 point. The former international forward Paulo Cunha (200-80) notched a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort and American center Dain Swetalla (206-86, college: Augustana, IL) supported him with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Four Vitoria SC players scored in double figures. Even 31 points and 9 rebounds by American forward Al Rapier (200-89, college: Stony Brook, agency: Dynamics Global Management) did not help to save the game for Sampaense. His fellow American import guard Steve Baker (187-90, college: Wisc.-Green Bay) added 17 points and 5 steals for the hosts. Vitoria SC keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Academica. Sampaense will play against Fisica in Torres Vedras and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Barcelos - Fisica 75-70

Barcelos used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Torres Vedras 75-70 on Saturday night. Barcelos made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. Montenegrin forward Marko Loncovic (200-91) notched 19 points and 9 rebounds to lead the effort and international point guard Nuno Oliveira (186-89) supported him with 23 points and 5 rebounds. Even 16 points and 7 rebounds by Cape Verdean guard Braima Freire (188-82) did not help to save the game for Fisica. point guard Carlos Barroca (182-84) added 15 points and 4 assists for the guests. Four Fisica players scored in double figures. Barcelos will meet Galitos-Tley in the next round. Fisica will play against Sampaense in Coimbra and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Academica - Ovarense 57-54

Academica (2-0) saved a 3-point victory at home edging one of their biggest challengers Ovarense (1-1) 57-54 on Saturday evening. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 14-4. But Ovarense won second period 18-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Academica dominated on the defensive end, holding Ovarense to just 4 points in first quarter. Ovarense was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international swingman Fernando Sousa (192-81) scored 22 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American-Spanish forward Arnette Hallman (199-88) chipped in 9 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. Spanish power forward Sergi Coll (204-82) responded with 17 points and 6 rebounds and guard Jose Miguel Barbosa (176-90) scored 8 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists and 6 steals. Academica will play against CAB Madeira in Funchal in the next round where they are favorite. Ovarense will play at home against Lusitania in Angra to get more than just one victory in their record.

Swingman Jorge Freitas (180-88) notched 20 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and the former international Jorge Coelho (200-78) supported him with 19 points and 6 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Even 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists by guard Antonio Pires (185-86) did not help to save the game for Alges. International Rui Quintino (194-83) added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the guests. Four Alges players scored in double figures. CAB Madeira will meet at home Academica in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Alges will play against Benfica.
