There were just three rounds played in Regular Season of LPB and we can clearly see which teams will fight for top positions and which will try to avoid bottom places.
Round 3 most important game was a victory of Barcelos over 4th placed Galitos-Tley72-67 on Thursday night. It was a good game for Montenegrin forward Marko Loncovic (200-91) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Slovenian forward Matic Sirnik (200-91) contributed with 21 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. The former international guard Antonio Tavares (183-75) answered with 24 points for Galitos-Tley. Barcelos (2-1) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Ovarense. Newly promoted Galitos-Tley dropped to the seventh position with two games lost. They share it with Fisica and Lusitania. Barcelos is looking forward to face Ovarense (#5) at home in the next round. Galitos-Tley will play against Sampaense in Coimbra and is hoping to win this game. The game between seventh ranked Ovarense (2-1) and 8th ranked Lusitania (1-2) in Ovarense ended with biggest points difference. Ovarense outscored guests from Angra 82-58. Worth to mention a quality performance of the former international forward Miguel Miranda (205-78) who helped to win the game recording 11 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Fernando Neves helped adding 18 points. Ovarense's coach Carlos Pinto felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was forward Mohamed Camara (196-83) with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Ovarense moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Barcelos. Lusitania at the other side dropped to the seventh position with two games lost. They share it with Fisica and Galitos-Tley. Ovarense will play against Barcelos (#4) on the road in the next round. Lusitania will play against CAB Madeira in Funchal and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
In the last two games of round 3 winless Sampaense were beaten by Fisica on the road 66-59. Benfica won against Alges on its own court 70-66. The most impressive performance of 3rd round was 17 points and 10 assists by Antonio Pires of Alges.

There was a small surprise when eleventh ranked Fisica (1-2) beat bottom-ranked Sampaense (0-2) in Torres Vedras 66-59. The hosts were already 12 points ahead at halftime and as many as 13 after three quarters before a 19-13 last quarter charge of Sampaense cut the lead to 66-59 at the end of the game. Fisica forced 19 Sampaense turnovers. It was a great evening for point guard Carlos Barroca (182-84) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points and 4 assists. Naturalized Sao Tome and Principe power forward Ekjersey Viana (203-77) helped adding 8 points and 14 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American forward Al Rapier (200-89, college: Stony Brook, agency: Dynamics Global Management) with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import guard Steve Baker (187-90, college: Wisc.-Green Bay) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Fisica left bottom position moving up to seventh place, which they share with Lusitania and Galitos-Tley. Sampaense at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost. Fisica will play against higher ranked Vitoria SC (#3) in Guimaraes in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Very expected game when bottom-ranked Alges (0-3) lost on the road to leader Benfica (2-0) 70-66. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Alges won third quarter 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Benfica forced 19 Alges turnovers. My High School coach (Charles Jackson MCSM) was the one who who showed me with hard work basketball can take me very far in life. He is someone I looked up too so I decided to trust him and work hard. He was right because it earned me a scholarship to the University of Rhode Island and has taken me all over the world. (Norway, Brasil,Syria,Mxico). I have made life time friends here in Portugal and met my wife who has given me a beautiful baby girl. All this from basketball,its truly a blessing.
Eurobasket.com: What about you future plans, you see yourself playing in Portugal again or you are planning to find a job in a new league? Portugal has been very good to me but I am looking to play in a new league to better support my family.
Eurobasket.com: What about the best game you had in till now in your career, what stats you had and when was it? I have had a couple 20 point 20 rebound games but I think my best game was having 22 points 18 rebounds 4 blks and 19 14 rebounds 3 blks in games that helped us win proliga championships in 2008 and 2010
Eurobasket.com: How do you like to spend your free time? I love spending all my free time with my wife and daughter.
