There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with loss of the undefeated team and games ending by tiny margin.

Undefeated CAB Madeira (4-1) recorded its first loss in Coimbra on Saturday night. Visitors were edged by second ranked Olivais (6-1) 66-64. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Olivais dominated on the defensive end, holding CAB Madeira to just 7 points in second quarter. They made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game. They outrebounded CAB Madeira 36-23 including 29 on the defensive glass. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was center Lady Comfort (188-C-86, college: Temple) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 15 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). Guard Mattilyn McIntyre (175-89, college: UALR) chipped in 19 points. Forward Jheri Booker (183, college: Tennessee St.) produced 20 points for the guests. Olivais have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 6-1 record behind leader GDESSA, which they share with Alges and Lombos Quinta. CAB Madeira at the other side dropped to the sixth place with one game lost. Olivais is looking forward to face Boa Viagem (#5) in Angra Heroismo in the next round. CAB Madeira will play at home against Alges and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Leader GDESSA delivered the seventh victory. This time they crushed 8th ranked CDTorres N. (2-6) 81-58 in Barreiro. American guard Tyeasha Moss (175-90, college: Xavier) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds. Vera Correia contributed with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. GDESSA's coach Nuno Manaia felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Taylor Turnbow (187-90, college: LSU, agency: Merit Sports) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds for CDTorres N.GDESSA have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-1 record. CDTorres N. lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with six games lost. GDESSA will play against AD Vagos (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. CDTorres N. will play against Boa Viagem in Angra Heroismo and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked Lousada (0-6) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 93-49 loss to fourth ranked Lombos Quinta (6-1) in Carcavelos on Saturday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Lombos Quinta have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Olivais and Alges. Newly promoted Lousada still closes the standings with six games lost. Lombos Quinta will meet at home Montijobanda (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Lousada will play against Ovarense and hopes to get finally their first victory.
Bottom-ranked Ovarense (0-8) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 73-70 loss to sixth ranked Boa Viagem (5-3) in Angra Heroismo. Boa Viagem moved-up to fifth place. Newly promoted Ovarense still closes the standings with eight games lost. Boa Viagem's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Olivais in Coimbra and it may be quite challenging game. Ovarense will play against Lousada (#11) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
Important game to mention about took place in Montijo. Tenth ranked Montijobanda (2-5) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 9th ranked Academico FC (2-7) 61-60 on Saturday evening. The best player for the winners was Monae Baker who scored 25 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!). Montijobanda's coach Ricardo Barata used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Montijobanda moved-up to eighth place. Loser Academico FC dropped to the tenth position with seven games lost. Montijobanda will face higher ranked Lombos Quinta (#3) in Carcavelos in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Academico FC will play at home against the league's second-placed Olivais (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.

In the last two games of round 8 AD Vagos were defeated by Alges in a road game 73-67. AD Vagos were smashed by CAB Madeira at home 57-82.

Montijobanda - Academico FC 61-60

Important game to mention about took place in Montijo. Tenth ranked Montijobanda (2-5) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 9th ranked Academico FC (2-7) 61-60 on Saturday evening. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. The best player for the winners was American power forward Monae Baker (185, college: Shippensburg) who scored 25 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!). The other American import guard Cherise Daniel (180, college: Ohio St.) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds. Montijobanda's coach Ricardo Barata used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Joana Ferreira produced 29 points and Isabel Leite (-84) added 10 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the guests. Montijobanda moved-up to eighth place. Loser Academico FC dropped to the tenth position with seven games lost. There was no surprise when 6th ranked AD Vagos (4-4) were defeated on the road by fourth ranked Alges (6-1) 73-67 on Saturday. AD Vagos were tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. They outrebounded AD Vagos 46-29 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American forward Laura Broomfield (185-90, college: N.Carolina) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 28 rebounds. The other American import forward Courtney Jones (187-89, college: LSU, agency: Merit Sports) chipped in 30 points. American center Ebony Ellis (190-88, college: N.Illinois) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds and the former international center Ana Teixeira (185-79) added 15 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Alges have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Olivais and Lombos Quinta. AD Vagos lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. Alges will face CAB Madeira (#6) in Funchal in the next round. AD Vagos will play at home against the league's leader GDESSA in Barreiro.

CDTorres N. was better in third quarter 16-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded CDTorres N. 54-30 including a 24-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard Tyeasha Moss (175-90, college: Xavier) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds.
