There was a change at the Liga Feminina leadership position after last games. Round 9 most important game was a defeat of league's leader GDESSA (7-2). They were edged by seventh ranked AD Vagos (5-4) 61-58 on Sunday night. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of GDESSA. The hosts trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 22-16 charge, which allowed them to win the game. American center Ebony Ellis (190-C-88, agency: Promotex, college: N.Illinois) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and international Joana Lopes (185-86) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. The best for the losing side was guard Laura Ferreira (177-95) with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. AD Vagos maintains seventh place with 5-4 record. GDESSA at the other side dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Olivais. GDESSA will play next round against CAB Madeira trying to make it back to the top of the standings. AD Vagos will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Boa Viagem in Angra Heroismo.
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Olivais as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Olivais defeated 5th ranked Boa Viagem in Coimbra 79-63. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Boa Viagem. Olivais (8-1) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Boa Viagem at the other side keeps the fifth place with four games lost. Boa Viagem will play next round against AD Vagos trying to get back on the winning streak. Olivais will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Lombos Quinta at Carcavelos.
A very close game took place in Funchal between Alges and CAB Madeira. Fourth ranked Alges (7-1) got a very close victory on the road over 5th ranked CAB Madeira (5-2). Alges managed to escape with a 3-point win 58-55 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of CAB Madeira. The best player for the winners was Laura Broomfield who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 26 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Carmen Reynolds who recorded 21 points. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Alges. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Lombos Quinta. Loser CAB Madeira dropped to the sixth position with two games lost. Alges will meet at home Academico FC (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. CAB Madeira will play against GDESSA (#4) in Barreiro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Lousada has finally registered their first victory this season after six consecutive loses. They used home court advantage to defeat Ovarense (0-9) 106-67. Newly promoted Lousada maintains eleventh place with 1-6 record. It was Ovarense's ninth loss in a row. Ovarense at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with nine games lost. Lousada's next round opponent will be higher ranked Montijobanda (#8) at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ovarense will play against CDTorres N. (#9) in Torres Novas and hopes to get finally their first victory.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 9: Boa Viagem won against CDTorres N. on the opponent's court 50-42. Lombos Quinta outscored Montijobanda in a home game 67-44. Olivais managed to beat Academico FC on the road 60-54. Academico FC was crushed by CAB Madeira on its own court 38-74.

CDTorres N. - Boa Viagem 42-50

Very expected game in Torres Novas where 9th ranked CDTorres N. (2-7) was defeated by fifth ranked Boa Viagem (6-4) 50-42. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 13-3. But CDTorres N. won second period 13-6. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Boa Viagem dominated on the defensive end, holding CDTorres N. to just 3 points in first quarter. They outrebounded CDTorres N. 50-30 including a 39-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a good game for power forward Ta-Myra Davis (185-87, college: Wright St.) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 23 rebounds. Guard Corin Adams (170-88, college: Morgan St.) contributed with 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Guard Donica Cosby (172-88, college: Oklahoma City, agency: Gamble Sports Management) answered with 18 points and 5 rebounds and forward Taylor Turnbow (187-90, college: LSU, agency: Merit Sports) added 10 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for CDTorres N.Boa Viagem maintains fifth place with 6-4 record. CDTorres N. lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the ninth position with seven games lost. Boa Viagem's next round opponent will be AD Vagos (#7) at home. CDTorres N. will play against Ovarense.

Rather predictable result in Carcavelos where fourth ranked Lombos Quinta (7-1) smashed 8th ranked Montijobanda (2-6) 67-44. The game without a history. Lombos Quinta led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Lombos Quinta outrebounded Montijobanda 58-31 including a 21-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a good game for guard Haily Dunham (188-87, college: USC, agency: Merit Sports) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Ashley Daniels (187-89, college: Arkansas) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Lombos Quinta's coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Power forward Monae Baker (185, college: Shippensburg) answered with 9 points and 14 rebounds and guard Cherise Daniel (180, college: Ohio St.) added 13 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Montijobanda. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Lombos Quinta. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Alges. Newly promoted Montijobanda keeps the eighth position with six games lost. Lombos Quinta's next round opponent will be league's leader Olivais in Coimbra and it will be for sure the game of the week. Montijobanda will play on the road against Lousada (#11).
