The most exciting game of round 8 in the LPB took place in Barcelos. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 6th ranked Barcelos (3-5) to fourth ranked Academica (5-2) 88-85 on Saturday evening. The guests trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 26-19 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Academica made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was forward Joao Balseiro (192-87) who scored 30 points and 5 steals. American-Spanish forward Arnette Hallman (199-88) chipped in 15 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Montenegrin forward Marko Loncovic (200-91) produced 34 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds for the hosts. Academica moved-up to third place, which they share with CAB Madeira. Barcelos at the other side dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. Academica's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Coimbra Sampaense.
Undefeated leader Benfica delivered the seventh consecutive victory. This time they beat 5th ranked Vitoria SC (4-3) 87-74 in Guimaraes. American forward Seth Doliboa (203-80, college: Wright St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds. LaceDarius Dunn contributed with 28 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Naturalized Cape Verdean guard Ivan Almeida (198-89, college: Stonehill, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) replied with 21 points and 8 rebounds for Vitoria SC. Undefeated Benfica (7-0) have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with a perfect record of 7 victories in a row. Vitoria SC lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with three games lost. Benfica will play against Fisica (#8) in Torres Vedras in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Vitoria SC will play on the road against Alges and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game in Torres Vedras supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked CAB Madeira (5-2) played at the court of 7th ranked Fisica (2-5). CAB Madeira smashed Fisica 83-58 on Saturday. Worth to mention a great performance of Jason Smith who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 7 assists. CAB Madeira's coach Joao Freitas felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Edson Rosario responded with 14 points and 6 rebounds. CAB Madeira have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 5-2 record having just two points less than leader Benfica, which they share with Academica. Newly promoted Fisica dropped to the eighth place with five games lost. CAB Madeira will meet league's second-placed Ovarense on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Fisica will play against the league's leader Benfica (#1) and hope to secure a win.
A very interesting game took place in Coimbra. It ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 9th ranked Alges (1-6) to eighth ranked Sampaense (3-4) 75-72 on Saturday evening. The winners were led by Al Rapier who scored that evening 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Sampaense moved-up to sixth place. Newly promoted Alges dropped to the tenth position with six games lost. Sampaense's next round opponent will be higher ranked Academica (#4) in Coimbra and it may be quite challenging game. Alges will play at home against Vitoria SC (#5) in Guimaraes.

In the last game of round 8 Ovarense defeated Galitos-Tley in a road game 66-52.
The best stats of 8th round was 28 points and 15 rebounds by Jamarkus Holt of Alges.


Galitos-Tley - Ovarense 52-66

There was no surprise in Barreiro where 9th ranked Galitos-Tley (1-6) was defeated by second ranked Ovarense (7-1) 66-52. The game was mostly controlled by Ovarense. Galitos-Tley was better in third quarter 12-8. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ovarense forced 22 Galitos-Tley turnovers. The winners were led by the former international forward Miguel Miranda (205-78) who scored that evening 10 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Jose Miguel Barbosa (176-90) supported him with 13 points and 5 assists. Four Ovarense players scored in double figures. Even 20 points by the former international guard Antonio Tavares (183-75) did not help to save the game for Galitos-Tley. American power forward Chris Barnes (205-88, college: Georgia) added 9 points and 13 rebounds for the hosts. Ovarense have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 7-1 record having just -1 point less than leader Benfica. Galitos-Tley lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the bottom place with six games lost. Ovarense's next round opponent will be CAB Madeira (#3) in Funchal, which may be the game of the day. Galitos-Tley will play at home against CAB Madeira (#3) in Funchal.

They made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. CAB Madeira forced 24 Fisica turnovers and outrebounded them 32-19 including 19 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Jason Smith (183-83, college: Al.-Huntsville) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 7 assists and the other American import power forward Shawn Jackson (203-71, college: Johnson C. Smith) who added 11 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Five CAB Madeira players scored in double figures.
