Proliga Round 11: Guifoes beat Ginasio by one after a very close game - Jan 6, 2013

Proliga is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 11 rounds left.

The most exciting game of round 11 in the Proliga took place in Figueira da Foz. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 7th ranked Ginasio (3-7) to sixth ranked Guifoes (6-4) 70-69 on Saturday evening. Guifoes moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Sangalhos and Illiabum. Ginasio at the other side keeps the seventh position with seven games lost. They share it with Angra and Benfica B. Guifoes is looking forward to face Angrabasket (#8) at home in the next round. Ginasio will have a break next round.
An interesting game for Oliveirense (9-1) which hosted in Oliveira 4th placed Sangalhos (6-4). Second ranked Oliveirense had an easy win 76-47. It was a great evening for the former international guard Joao Reveles (187-80) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Nuno Cortez helped adding 16 points and 20 rebounds. Forward Vitor Farinha (198-76) responded with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Oliveirense have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Maia Basket. Sangalhos at the other side keep the fourth place with four games lost. They share the position with Illiabum and Guifoes. Oliveirense will play against Benfica B (#9) in Lisboa in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sangalhos will play at home against the league's leader Maia Basket (#1) and hope to get back on the winning track.

In the last game of round 11 Leca were beaten by Benfica B on the road 64-57.

Benfica B - Leca 64-57

The game between closely ranked teams ended with ninth ranked Benfica B's (3-7) home victory over 10th ranked Leca (1-9) in Lisboa 64-57. The hosts were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. It was a great evening for power forward Candido Sa (202-92) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. Power forward Pedro Belo (214-92) helped adding 12 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Daniel Ramos (193-91) responded with 14 points and 9 rebounds and Hugo Gomes scored 8 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Benfica B moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Ginasio and Angra. Leca lost ninth consecutive game. Leca at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the tenth position with nine games lost. They share it with Terceira. Benfica B will play against league's second-placed Oliveirense in Oliveira in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Leca will play at home against Terceira (#11) in Angra Heroismo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

An interesting game for Oliveirense (9-1) which hosted in Oliveira 4th placed Sangalhos (6-4). Second ranked Oliveirense had an easy win 76-47. The game without a history. Oliveirense led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Oliveirense outrebounded Sangalhos 47-23 including a 38-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for the former international guard Joao Reveles (187-80) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. The former international center Nuno Cortez (205-82) helped adding 16 points and 20 rebounds. Vitoria SC - FC Porto 70-95 FC Porto cruised past Vitoria SC on the road to sweep the semifinal series. The game was mostly controlled by FC Porto Ferpinta. Vitoria SC managed to win fourth quarter 21-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Barreirense - Terceira 56-60 Terceira celebrate Proliga title. They upset Barreirense on the road to sweep the championship series. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Barreirense won third quarter 11-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Terceira take advantage of home court in first game of final series of Proliga and grab first win. Next game will be played on 26th of May. Terceira - Barreirense 63-56 Naturalized Sao Tome and Principe center Ekjersey Viana (203-77) stepped up and scored 12 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and guard Luis-Felipe Tomassi (175-92) chipped in 16 points.
