The most exciting game of round 13 in the LPB took place in Ovarense. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 3rd placed Academica (8-4) to fourth ranked Ovarense (9-3) 66-63 in the game for the third place. Academica was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Guard Jose Miguel Barbosa (176-90) stepped up and scored 11 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners and international Fernando Neves (194-80) chipped in 17 points. At the losing side American-Spanish forward Arnette Hallman (199-88) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds. Ovarense moved-up to third place. Academica at the other side dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. Ovarense are looking forward to face Lusitania (#8) in Angra in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Academica will play at home against the league's second-placed CAB Madeira (#2) in Funchal and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The former international point guard Pedro Pinto (188-88) came up with 30 points and 5 assists for Galitos-Tley in the defeat. Lusitania maintains eighth place with 4-8 record, which they share with Fisica. Newly promoted Galitos-Tley dropped to the bottom position with ten games lost. They share it with Alges. Lusitania will play against higher ranked Ovarense (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Galitos-Tley will play against Barcelos (#7) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Torres Vedras between Fisica and Barcelos. Ninth ranked Fisica (4-8) got a very close home victory over 6th ranked Barcelos (5-7). Fisica managed to escape with a 3-point win 69-66 on Saturday evening. Franklim Furtado fired 22 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Marko Loncovic produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds for lost side. Fisica moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Lusitania. Loser Barcelos dropped to the seventh position with seven games lost. Fisica will meet higher ranked Sampaense (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Barcelos will play against Galitos-Tley in Barreiro and hope to secure a win.
Second ranked CAB Madeira (10-2) crushed at home 8th ranked Lusitania (4-8) by 26 points 90-64, which is the biggest margin this round. Worth to mention a great performance of Jose Costa who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 7 assists. CAB Madeira's coach Joao Freitas felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. CAB Madeira have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain second place with 10-2 record having just -1 point less than leader Benfica. Lusitania at the other side keeps the eighth position with eight games lost. CAB Madeira's next round opponent will be Vitoria SC (#5) in Guimaraes. Lusitania will play at home against Ovarense.

In the last game of round 13 Sampaense won against Vitoria SC on the opponent's court 93-87.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 30 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists by Ivan Almeida of Vitoria SC.



Galitos-Tley - Lusitania 73-75

Important game to mention about took place in Barreiro. Eighth ranked Lusitania (4-8) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 10th ranked Galitos-Tley (2-10) 75-73 on Sunday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 19-15. But Galitos-Tley won second period 15-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lusitania brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. American center Marcel Momplasir (205-81, college: Rhode Island) nailed a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winning side and his fellow American import guard John Huggins (188-82, college: Amer.Internat.) accounted for 23 points and 7 rebounds. The former international point guard Pedro Pinto (188-88) came up with 30 points and 5 assists and American guard Jeremy Bynum (190-88, college: Jacksonville St., agency: Interperformances) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Galitos-Tley in the defeat. Vitoria SC - Sampaense 87-93

There was a minor upset in Guimaraes where 5th ranked Vitoria SC (6-6) was defeated by seventh ranked Sampaense (5-6) 93-87. Vitoria SC was ahead by 2 points at the halftime before a 46-38 second half run of Sampaense. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Steve Baker (187-90, college: Green Bay) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws). Swingman Jorge Sing (192-77) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. Baker is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Sampaense's coach Jose Calabote allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Naturalized Cape Verdean guard Ivan Almeida (198-89, college: Stonehill, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) answered with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists and American center Dain Swetalla (206-86, college: Augustana, IL) added 15 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Vitoria SC. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sampaense moved-up to sixth place. Vitoria SC at the other side keeps the fifth position with six games lost. Sampaense's next round opponent will be Fisica (#9) in Torres Vedras. Vitoria SC will play at home against the league's second-placed CAB Madeira (#2) in Funchal.

A very close game took place in Torres Vedras between Fisica and Barcelos. Ninth ranked Fisica (4-8) got a very close home victory over 6th ranked Barcelos (5-7). Fisica managed to escape with a 3-point win 69-66 on Saturday evening. The hosts trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they rallied back getting tie in the second period and winning the second half and won the game by 3 points. Fisica forced 22 Barcelos turnovers. Guinea-Bissau Franklim Furtado (198-87) fired 22 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Cape Verdean guard Braima Freire (188-82) chipped in 11 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Chemidor Tehran (Superleague) agreed terms with 29-year old American guard Daequan Cook (195-95kg-87, college: Ohio State). He played last season at Sport Lisboa Benfica in Portuguese LPB league.
