Steve Baker
American guard Steve Baker (187-G-90) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Sampaense, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 13.
The 22-year old player had a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds, while his team beat Vitoria SC (#5, 6-6) 93-87. Sampaense is placed at 6th position in Portuguese LPB. Sampaense is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 5-6 record. In the team's last game Baker had a remarkable 69.2% from 2-point range. He turned to be Sampaense's top player in his first season with the team. Former University of Wisconsin - Green Bay star has very solid stats this year. Baker is in league's top in points (9th best: 15.9ppg) and averages impressive 56.5% FGP. Worth to mention Baker played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

The second best player in last round's games was 23-year old Cape Verdean Ivan Almeida (198-G-89) of Vitoria SC. Almeida had a very good evening with a double-double of 30 points and 13 rebounds. Bad luck as Vitoria SC lost that game 87-93 to slightly lower-ranked Sampaense (#6, 5-6). Vitoria SC managed to keep the same 5th spot in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 6-6 record is not bad and everything may still change. Almeida is a newcomer at Vitoria SC, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 19.7ppg (#2). He also registered 10.1 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was American center Marcel Momplasir (205-C-81) of Lusitania (#8). Momplasir scored 21 points and grabbed thirteen rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of Lusitania, leading his team to a 75-73 win against the lower-ranked Galitos-Tley (#11, 2-10). The chances of Lusitania not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 8 games, recording just four victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Momplasir could try to bring Lusitania's a little bit higher in the standings. Momplasir has individually a great season in Portugal. After 12 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 11.0rpg (2nd best). He also has 1.9bpg and FGP: 56.5%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Pedro Pinto (188-PG-88) of Galitos-Tley - 30 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists
5. Marko Loncovic (200-F-91) of Barcelos - 20 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Arnette Hallman (199-F-88) of Academica - 19 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Dain Swetalla (206-C-86) of Vitoria SC - 15 points, 13 rebounds and 3 assists
8. Mario Fernandes (176-PG-82) of Academica - 14 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists
9. Jorge Sing (192-G/F-77) of Sampaense - 12 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists
10. Franklim Furtado (198-PF-87) of Fisica - 22 points and 6 rebounds

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
