Benfica claimed Hugo dos Santos Cup title. They held off Academica in the Final tonight for the trophy. Joao Gomes (201-SG-85) came up with 25 points and 7 rebounds to pace the winners. He was named the MVP after the game.
Benfica enjoyed a comfortable 23:14 lead after ten minutes of action. They stretched the gap in the second term. Benfica accounted for a 48:34 halftime advantage. Academica stopped the bleeding in the third term. They straighten their defensive performance and cut the deficit to 13-point mark heading into the fourth period. Academica got even closer in the fourth frame but Benfica stayed on alert and did not allow their opponents within striking distance. Diogo Carreira (180-PG-78) finished with 19 points, while Claudio Fonseca (206-C-89) added 12 points for the winners. Mario Fernandes (176-PG-82) answered with 17 points for Academica. Arnette Hallman (199-F-88) topscored with 21 points and 7 rebounds in the loss.

Valka/Valga (LBL) landed 24-year old Latvian shooting guard Arturs Bricis (198-82kg-92, agency: Dynamics Global Management). He played most recently at Oliveirense in Portuguese LPB league. In 39 games he averaged 10.0ppg and 3.0rpg last season. Bricis helped them to make it to the semifinals. The previous (14-15) season he played at Barons Riga where in 18 LBL games he had 10.6ppg, 3.9rpg, 2.3apg and 1.1spg. B.C. Martorell Solvay (EBA) signed 22-year old Portuguese small forward Henrique Piedade (189-94). He played last season at Galitos-Barreiro in Portuguese LPB league. In 30 games he had 11.6ppg, 4.2rpg, 1.5apg and 1.2spg. A very impressive season as he was named to Eurobasket.com All-Portuguese League Honorable Mention.
