The most exciting game of round 14 in the LPB took place in Coimbra. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of second-ranked CAB Madeira (11-3) to fourth ranked Academica (9-4) 62-60 on Saturday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But CAB Madeira won fourth quarter 17-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was American-Spanish forward Arnette Hallman (199-88) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. The former international point guard Mario Fernandes (176-82) chipped in 13 points and 9 assists. The former international point guard Jaime Silva (187-80) produced 16 points for the guests. CAB Madeira's coach Joao Freitas rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Academica maintains fourth position with 9-4 record. CAB Madeira at the other side keeps the second place with three games lost. Academica are looking forward to face league's leader Benfica on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. CAB Madeira will play against Lusitania in Angra and is hoping to win this game.
Sixth-ranked Vitoria SC (6-7) made lots of trouble for second ranked CAB Madeira (11-3) in Guimaraes. The visitors from Funchal managed to secure only one-point victory 78-77. However their fans expected much easier game. The former international point guard Jaime Silva (187-80) saved the victory by scoring 29 points. Jose Manuel Coego contributed with 10 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. CAB Madeira's coach Joao Freitas allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Naturalized Cape Verdean guard Ivan Almeida (198-89, college: Stonehill) replied with 18 points and 8 rebounds for Vitoria SC. CAB Madeira maintains second position with 11-3 record having just -2 point less than leader Benfica. Vitoria SC at the other side keeps the sixth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Barcelos. CAB Madeira will play against Lusitania (#8) in Angra in the next round where they are favorite. Vitoria SC will play on the road against Fisica in Torres Vedras and hopes to get back on the winning track.

The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains first position with 11-1 record. Alges lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the tenth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Galitos-Tley. Benfica will meet at home Academica (#4) in the next round. Alges will have a break next round.
The game in Angra was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Ovarense (10-3) played at the court of 8th ranked Lusitania (4-9). Ovarense defeated Lusitania 55-45. Miguel Miranda notched 20 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort. Ovarense have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 10-3 record behind leader Benfica. Lusitania at the other side keeps the eighth place with nine games lost. Ovarense's next round opponent will be Barcelos (#7) at home. Lusitania will play against the league's second-placed CAB Madeira in Funchal.

Fisica will play at home against Vitoria SC in Guimaraes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 14 bottom-ranked Galitos-Tley was defeated by Barcelos in a road game 90-75.
The best stats of 14th round was 27 points and 15 rebounds by Marko Loncovic of Barcelos.

Sampaense - Fisica 68-65

Important game to mention about took place in Coimbra. Sixth ranked Sampaense (6-6) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 9th ranked Fisica (4-9) 68-65 on Saturday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-17. But Fisica won second period 19-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Fisica 38-25 including 31 on the defensive glass. Fisica was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American forward Al Rapier (200-89, college: Stony Brook, agency: Dynamics Global Management) who scored 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The other American import guard Steve Baker (187-90, college: Green Bay) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds. Baker is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Sampaense players scored in double figures. Sampaense's coach Jose Calabote used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Naturalized Mozambican guard Ricardo Rodrigues (185-81) produced 25 points and point guard Carlos Barroca (182-84) added 14 points respectively for the guests. Sampaense moved-up to fifth place. Newly promoted Fisica dropped to the eighth position with nine games lost. Sampaense will face bottom-ranked Galitos-Tley (#11) in Barreiro in the next round where they are favorite. Fisica will play at home against Vitoria SC in Guimaraes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

They dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Alges' 26. They outrebounded Alges 43-24 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Benfica looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Alges' players. The former international center Elvis Evora (205-78) had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Joao Gomes (201-85) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. point guard Diogo Ventura (189-94) responded with 14 points and American forward Jamarkus Holt (205, college: Delta St.) scored 8 points and 6 rebounds. But then Ovarense took control getting tie in the second period and winning the second half and eventually winning the game that evening by 10 points. The former international forward Miguel Miranda (205-78) notched 20 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort and international Cristovao Cordeiro (202-89) supported him with 7 points and 9 rebounds. Even 8 points and 13 rebounds by American center Marcel Momplasir (205-81, college: Rhode Island) did not help to save the game for Lusitania. His fellow American import guard John Huggins (188-82, college: Amer.Internat.) added 13 points for the hosts. Ovarense have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 10-3 record behind leader Benfica. Lusitania at the other side keeps the eighth place with nine games lost. Galitos-Tley was better in fourth quarter 19-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Galitos-Tley 37-22 including 25 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Montenegrin forward Marko Loncovic (200-91) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 15 rebounds. International point guard Nuno Oliveira (186-89) chipped in 18 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Five Barcelos players scored in double figures. The former international point guard Pedro Pinto (188-88) produced 25 points and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and center Jose Ferreira (198-78) added 18 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for the guests.
