Electrico FC (#3) forced the game against Oliveirense (#1) into an overtime, but lost by eight points 88-96 on Saturday night. Joao Reveles stepped up with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Oliveirense's coach Sergio Salvador used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Oliveirense (14-1) have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place. Electrico FC at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. Oliveirense will face league's second-placed Maia Basket at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.



Guifoes - Illiabum 68-85

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 5th ranked Guifoes (7-8) were defeated at home by sixth ranked Illiabum (8-8) 85-68 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Illiabum. Guifoes was better in fourth quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 26-of-33 free shots (78.8 percent) during the game. The former international guard Joao Figueiredo (183-79) stepped up and scored 24 points (was perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line !!!) for the winners and swingman Tiago Raimundo (194-90) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. Naturalized Angolan guard Joao Pereira (186-83) responded with 18 points and forward Ricardo Alpuim (189-88) scored 11 points and 9 rebounds. Guifoes' coach Paulo Fidalgo rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Illiabum moved-up to fifth place. Guifoes lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with eight games lost. Illiabum will face Leca (#10) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Guifoes will play against Sangalhos (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The hosts trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 20-14 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 19-11. Oliveirense forced 21 Electrico FC turnovers. Electrico FC was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international guard Joao Reveles (187-80) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Carlos Resende chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds. Oliveirense's coach Sergio Salvador used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Naturalized Cape Verdean swingman Mario Neves (190-77) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 23 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Joao Lanzinha (188-89) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. Four Oliveirense and five Electrico FC players scored in double figures. Oliveirense (14-1) have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place. Electrico FC at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. Oliveirense will face league's second-placed Maia Basket at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with ninth ranked Terceira's (5-11) road victory over bottom-ranked Ginasio (3-12) 55-47 on Saturday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Terceira dominated on the defensive end, holding Ginasio to just 7 points in third quarter. Forward Frederico Tavares (194-88) stepped up and scored 20 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and American center Chano Rashiduddin (208, college: Clark Atlanta) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds. Swingman Pedro Rocha (190-87) responded with 19 points and 6 rebounds and guard Tiago Barreiro (187-83) scored 17 points. Terceira moved-up to eighth place. Ginasio lost their sixth game in a row. They dropped to the bottom position with 12 games lost. Terceira will face Benfica B (#9) in Lisboa in the next round. Ginasio will play at home against Angrabasket and be promoted back to the LPB just one year after relegation.

Benfica B - Angra 75-90

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 8th ranked Benfica B's (4-11) home loss to seventh ranked Angrabasket (7-8) 75-90 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 10 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 15 points. Angrabasket made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Angrabasket had a 28-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard Lamar Wright (191, college: Kean) stepped up and scored 25 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winners and Cape Verdean swingman Flavio Gomes (194-89) chipped in 19 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Wright is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Angrabasket players scored in double figures. Joao Ribeiro (201-93) responded with 20 points and 7 rebounds and Andre Miguens (184-94) scored 14 points. Benfica B's coach Alexandre Almeida rotated eleven players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Angrabasket. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Guifoes. Newly promoted Benfica B dropped to the ninth position with 11 games lost. Angrabasket will face Leca (#10) on the road in the next round. Benfica B will play against Terceira in Angra Heroismo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There was a surprise result when eleventh ranked Leca (3-11) outscored at home 4th placed Sangalhos (9-7) 68-48 on Saturday. The game without a history. Leca led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Leca had a 30-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Leca especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. Swingman Pedro Meireless (184-95) stepped up and scored 19 points for the winners and Tiago Lopes chipped in 13 points and 4 assists. Leca's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Swingman Emanuel Silva (188-79) responded with 18 points and 7 rebounds and forward Luis Fonte (191-79) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. Leca moved-up to tenth place. Loser Sangalhos keep the fourth position with seven games lost. Leca will face higher ranked Angrabasket (#7) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sangalhos will play against Guifoes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
