Antonio
Monteiro
Naturalized Angolan Forward Antonio Monteiro (204-F-89) put on an amazing game in the last round for Lusitania, receiving a Afrobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 22.
The 27-year old player had a double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds, while his team outclassed Sampaense (#12, 3-19) with 31-point margin 96-65. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on top of the standings. Lusitania maintains the 9th position in Portuguese LPB. Too late to salvage the team, which is currently ranked such low. They already lost 16 games and recorded just six victories. In the team's last game Monteiro had a remarkable 84.6% from 2-point range. He turned to be Lusitania's top player in his first season with the team. Antonio Monteiro has solid league stats. He leads league in rebounds with 10.1rpg. Monteiro is in league's top in and averages impressive 53.7% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 26-year old American Nick Novak (182-PG-90) of Ovarense. Novak had a very good evening with 26 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. It was enough for Ovarense to edge the higher-ranked Oliveirense (#4, 15-7) 67-65. Ovarense's 8th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 11-11 record is not bad and everything may still change. Novak is well-known at Ovarense and is a proven leader in his second season with the team. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.5ppg (#2). His other stats are also decent: 4.4rpg and 6.0apg.

Third on the list of top players last round was another Lusitania's star - American center Chris Matagrano (206-C-90). Matagrano showcased his all-around game by recording 21 points, thirteen rebounds (!!!) and four assists in the last round. He was another key player of Lusitania, helping his team with a 96-65 easy win against the lower-ranked Sampaense (#12, 3-19). Lusitania can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 6-16 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Matagrano he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Matagrano has individually a great season in Portugal. After 22 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 18.0ppg (5th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Nick Washburn (208-C-91) of FC Porto - 22 points and 12 rebounds
5. Miguel Minhava (195-G-83) of Galitos-Barreiro - 20 points, 3 rebounds and 8 assists
6. Victor Moses (201-F-89) of Vitoria SC - 20 points and 6 rebounds
7. Nuno Marcal (205-F-75) of Maia Basket - 27 points and 6 rebounds
8. Joao Torrie (200-C/F-91) of Electrico FC - 15 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists
9. Sasa Borovnjak (206-C/F-89) of FC Porto - 20 points and 7 rebounds
10. Damian Hollis (203-F-88) of Benfica - 27 points and 4 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
