The Second Stage in LPB just started.

FC Porto Ferpinta (19-4) recorded a loss in Oliveira on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by Oliveirense (17-6) 78-73. Oliveirense dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to FC Porto Ferpinta's 26. Oliveirense looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American power forward Justin Reynolds (206-88, college: Texas A&M-CC) fired 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. The former international forward Arnette Hallman (200-88) chipped in 9 points and 6 rebounds. The former international swingman Jose Silva (194-89) produced 19 points for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Oliveirense is looking forward to face Illiabum (#6) in Ilhavo in the next round. FC Porto Ferpinta will play at home against Benfica (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Fifth-ranked Galitos-Barreiro (14-9) made lots of trouble for Benfica (18-5). Benfica managed to secure only two-point victory 76-74. However their fans expected easier game. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Hungarian forward Damian Hollis (203-88, college: G.Washington, agency: Inception Sports) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 6 rebounds. Carlos Morais contributed with 20 points for the winners. Benfica's coach Carlos Lisboa allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American forward Dominique Lee (196-91, college: N.Colorado, agency: Blacktop Management) answered with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for Galitos-Barreiro. Benfica will play against FC Porto Ferpinta on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Galitos-Barreiro will play against Vitoria SC (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Twelfth-ranked Sampaense (3-20) made lots of trouble for CAB Madeira (12-11) in Coimbra on Sunday. The visitors from Funchal managed to secure only one-point victory 84-83. However their fans expected much easier game. Alex Marzette stepped up and scored 24 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners. At the losing side Andrew Guillory responded with 21 points and 4 assists. CAB Madeira will meet Lusitania (#9) in the next round. Sampaense will play against Electrico FC in Ponte de Sor and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games of round 1 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
In Places 1-6 Illiabum was defeated by Vitoria SC in Guimaraes 72-55.
In Places 7-12 Ovarense smashed Lusitania at home 102-77. Electrico FC lost to Maia Basket on the opponent's court 96-103.

Naturalized Angolan guard Carlos Morais (200-85, agency: Duran International) contributed with 20 points for the winners. The game between closely ranked teams ended with Ovarense's (12-11) home victory over Lusitania (6-17) 102-77 on Sunday. Ovarense made 17-of-18 free shots (94.4 percent) during the game. Ovarense outrebounded Lusitania 40-22 including a 28-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when Electrico FC (4-19) was defeated on the road by Maia Basket (4-19) 103-96 on Saturday. Maia Basket made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Maia Basket forced 19 Electrico FC turnovers. Maia Basket looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists.
