There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with derby games, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Barreirense as it allowed them to take a leadership position in Places 1-8. Barreirense defeated 8th ranked Academico FC in Barreiro 67-59. The best player for the winners was point guard Alexandre Coelho (178-90) who scored 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Filipe Pinheiro (190-90) chipped in 15 points and 4 assists. point guard Francisco Albergaria (178-97) produced 19 points for the guests. Academico FC's coach Diogo Perdigao rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Barreirense have a solid four-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Academico FC lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eighth place with seven games lost. Academico FC will play next round against Vasco trying to get back on the winning streak. Barreirense will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Benfica B in Lisboa.
Undefeated Angrabasket (7-1) recorded its first loss in Torres Vedras. Visitors were rolled over by eleventh ranked Fisica (5-3) 107-75. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Angrabasket. Forward Frederico Tavares (194-88) orchestrated the victory by scoring 29 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). Miguel Salvador contributed with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Fisica's coach Romero Junior felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cape Verdean swingman Flavio Gomes (194-88) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds for Angrabasket. Fisica have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to tenth place in Places 9-16, which they share with Belenenses CF. Angrabasket at the other side keeps the ninth position with one game lost. Fisica will play against Belenenses CF (#11) in Lisboa in the next round. Angrabasket will play at home against Sangalhos and hopes to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Estoril between Benfica B and Estoril Basket. Fifth ranked Benfica B (3-4) got a very close victory on the road over one of their biggest challengers Estoril Basket (4-3). Benfica B managed to escape with a 3-point win 65-62 on Saturday evening. Worth to mention a great performance of Sergio Silva who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 5 assists. Sergio-Lugo Santos responded with 7 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Benfica B maintains fifth position in Places 1-8 with 3-4 record. Loser Estoril Basket keeps the fourth place with three games lost. Benfica B will meet at home league's leader Barreirense in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Estoril Basket will play against the league's second-placed Terceira in Angra Heroismo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Porto: Vasco (#7) and Dragon Force (#2). Vasco (2-6) won against visiting Dragon Force (5-2) 61-49. The winners were led by Guilherme Sequeira who scored that evening 19 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Vasco moved-up to sixth place in Places 1-8, which they share with Esgueira. Dragon Force at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. Vasco's next round opponent will be Academico FC (#8). Dragon Force will play against Esgueira / Oli (#7) and hope to win that game.

Belenenses CF have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to tenth place in Places 9-16, which they share with Fisica. Loser Academia still closes the standings with seven games lost. Belenenses CF will face Fisica (#10) in Torres Vedras in the next round. Academia will play on the road against Guifoes (#15) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Rest of the games of round 8 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
In Places 1-8 Terceira crushed Esgueira in Angra Heroismo 65-43.
In Places 9-16 Ginasio beat Guifoes at home 80-74. Sanjoanense won against Sangalhos on the opponent's court 68-66.

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Esgueira / Oli (2-6) was crushed at home by third ranked Terceira (6-1) 65-43 on Saturday. Terceira held Esgueira / Oli to an opponent 24.2 percent shooting from the field compared to 32.4 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Esgueira / Oli 55-32 including a 22-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Esgueira / Oli was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was forward Mohamed Camara (196-83) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. Naturalized Sao Tome and Principe center Ekjersey Viana (203-77) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds. Forward Guilherme Oliveira (193-97) produced 5 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Joao Neves (185-96) added 4 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Serbian Sasa Borovnjak (206-C/F-89, agency: 011 Sports) had a great game in the last round for league's leader FC Porto and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 9 (Second Stage). LPB Round 9 (Second Stage): Benfica is upset by Oliveirense - 3 days ago
There will be only one (last) round of the Second Stage in LPB. The game between second ranked Benfica (23-8) and fourth ranked Oliveirense (21-10) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. Benfica was defeated by Oliveirense in Oliveira 79-62. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Benfica.
