The biggest surprise of round 3 in LPB was guest Benfica's (19-6) road victory over Vitoria SC (#4) 85-80 on Sunday evening. Benfica dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Vitoria SC's 34. The best player for the winners was American-Hungarian forward Damian Hollis (203-88, college: G.Washington, agency: Inception Sports) who scored 24 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). The former international point guard Nuno Oliveira (186-89) chipped in 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Benfica's coach Carlos Lisboa used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Andrew Ferry (190-90, college: Cornell) who recorded 17 points and 5 assists. Benfica is looking forward to face Oliveirense in Oliveira in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Vitoria SC will play at home against FC Porto Ferpinta and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
FC Porto Ferpinta delivered the twenty first victory. This time they crushed Illiabum (12-13) 85-53. It was a good game for American center Nick Washburn (208-91, college: Hillsdale, agency: Duran International) who led his team to a victory with 10 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Miguel Queiroz contributed with 13 points (perfect from the field making all six shots) for the winners. Power forward Rafael Wildner (207-92) answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds for Illiabum. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. FC Porto Ferpinta will play against Vitoria SC (#4) in Guimaraes in the next round. Illiabum will play on the road against Galitos-Barreiro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
