The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The round ended with extra overtimes, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.

The most exciting game of round 17 in the Div.A took place in Timisoara. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of second-ranked U-Mobitelco (12-4) to first ranked Timisoara (15-2) 72-71 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of U-Mobitelco. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 18-15. But U-Mobitelco won second period 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Bogdan Popescu (200-78, college: Alaska-Fairb.) who scored 24 points and 6 rebounds. Bosnian point guard Zlatko Jovanovic (181-84, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Serbian center Zoran Krstanovic (204-82) produced 16 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Timisoara maintains first place with 15-2 record. Defending champion U-Mobitelco dropped to the third position with four games lost. Timisoara are looking forward to face Oradea (#4) on the road in the next round. U-Mobitelco will play against CSM Bucuresti and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
Important game to mention about took place in Bucuresti. Sixth ranked CSM Bucuresti (11-6) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 5th ranked Targu Mures (12-5) 72-69 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Targu Mures. Montenegrin point guard Goran Martinic (184-87, agency: BeoExcell) orchestrated the victory by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds. Bryson McKenzie contributed with 9 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. The former international power forward Virgil Stanescu (208-77, college: S.Alabama, agency: Interperformances) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds for Targu Mures. CSM Bucuresti maintains sixth place with 11-6 record. Targu Mures at the other side dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. They share it with Oradea. CSM Bucuresti will play against higher ranked U-Mobitelco (#3) in Cluj in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Targu Mures will play at home against the league's second-placed Gaz Metan in Medias and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game where host Ploiesti (#8) won against 4th placed Oradea 78-66 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Oradea. Catalin Burlacu stepped up and scored 22 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Gediminas Navickas responded with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Oradea's coach Christian Achim rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Ploiesti maintains eighth place with 10-7 record. Loser Oradea keeps the fourth position with five games lost. They share it with Targu Mures. Ploiesti will meet bottom-ranked Otopeni (#16) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Oradea will play against the league's leader Timisoara (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
Bottom-ranked Politehnica (0-17) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 105-54 loss to third ranked Gaz Metan (13-4) in Medias. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Titus Nicoara nailed a double-double by scoring 23 points and 15 rebounds (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Gaz Metan's coach Ovidiu Teleaba felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gaz Metan moved-up to second place. Politehnica at the other side still closes the standings with 17 games lost. Gaz Metan's next round opponent will be Targu Mures (#5) on the road.
Fourteenth-ranked Perla Harghitei (2-14) made lots of trouble for ninth ranked Rovinari (9-8) in Miercurea on Saturday. The visitors from Rovinari managed to secure only eight-point victory 89-81. However their fans expected much easier game. The best player for the winners was Louis Darby who scored 24 points and 8 rebounds. Dinamo B. - Giurgiu 83-71

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 11th ranked Giurgiu (5-12) was defeated on the road by twelfth ranked CS Dinamo Bucuresti (5-11) 83-71 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by CS Dinamo Bucuresti. Giurgiu was better in third quarter 21-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening.
