Giurgiu appeared to be on it's way to winning the Energy Cup, up 3 points with a minute to play in the final of the Preseason tournament played against the host Energia Rovinari. It was a hard fought battle and played without key import Josh Simmons who is on the mend from a injury that would sideline him for the tournament. The whistles started coming one after another, 8 free throws to the host in the final minute of play and the game went to overtime. In the end, Energia Rovinari would attempt 40 free throws to Giurgiu's 18. A large disparity for two clubs that both were battling on both ends with penetration and post ups. Giurgiu would out shoot Rovinari 47.6 to 38.9 in FG% but the big difference in free throws, total fouls, and especially the 4 whistles all by the same referee in the final moments was crucial. The game went to overtime and the host eventually prevailed 74-72. The first and second place clubs were both presented trophies for their accomplishments. Final results had Rovinari defeating Craiova by 5, while Giurgiu won by 14. Rovinari defeating Dinamo by 21 while Giurgiu beat Dinamo by 43. While Craiova defeats Dinamo by 19. Craiova will have a good club this season as they competed in the tournament without key players PG Radi Dzambic and big man Ionut Dragusin who is with the National team. Each club will now look to move on to the next training and preseason games in preparation for the Romanian Cup and the 2012-2013 Romanian Championship. All Cupa Energia teams listed below:

We bring you last week's top performances from Romanians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level. This week's number one is an international point guard Malcolm Armstead (187-89, agency: BeoBasket). He could not help Yesilgiresun Bld (8-10) in their last game. Despite Armstead's good performance Yesilgiresun Bld lost 65-76 on the road to the leading Fenerbahce.    [read more]

Adrian Rosu
Adrian Rosu signs at Politehnica Iasi - 3 days ago
CS Politehnica Unirea Iasi (Liga I) landed 26-year old forward Adrian Rosu (198-91). He started the season at CS Dinamo Bucuresti (Liga Nationala). In four games he averaged 4.0ppg this season. Liga I will be definitely a better match and he can see more playing time. The last season Rosu played at Steaua CSM EximBank Bucuresti (also in Liga Nationala). In 7 Liga Nationala games he had just 1.3ppg. He helped them to win the regular season and make it to the semifinals. Rosu also played 3...   [read more]
