Serbian Milica Ivanovic (175-G-88, agency: Interperformances) had an amazing evening in the last round for Sf.Gheorghe and that's her to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 6. The 24-year old guard had the game-high 40 points adding four rebounds and four assists for Sf.Gheorghe in her team's victory, helping them to outclass Olimpia (#11, 2-4) with 54-point margin 109-55. Sf.Gheorghe is placed at 5th position in Romanian Division A. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost two games earlier this season. Sf.Gheorghe will need more victories to improve their 3-2 record. In the team's last game Ivanovic had a remarkable ten three-pointers out of 16 attempts. She turned to be Sf.Gheorghe's top player in her first season with the team. Catawba College graduate has very impressive stats this year. Ivanovic is in league's top in points (2nd best: 19.2ppg) and averages solid 3.0spg and 56.1% from behind 3-point line.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was another Sf.Gheorghe's star - young American swingman Jasmin Bailey (172-G/F-90). Bailey impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds. Of course together with Ivanovic she helped Sf.Gheorghe with another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Olimpia (#11, 2-4) 109-55. This victory allowed Sf.Gheorghe to move up to 5th position in the standings. Her team lost some distance to top teams. But 3-2 record is not bad and everything may still change. Bailey is a newcomer at Sf.Gheorghe and it seems she did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 19.0ppg (#3). She also registered 8.0 boards per game.
The third best performed player last round was American Chantel Hilliard (187-F/C-90) of Targu Mures (#12). Hilliard scored 21 points and grabbed fifteen rebounds (!!!). She was a key player of Targu Mures, leading her team to a 97-61 easy win against Oradea (#15, 0-6). The chances of Targu Mures not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 4 games, recording just two victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Hilliard could try to bring Targu Mures' a little bit higher in the standings. Hilliard has individually a great season in Romania. After only 6 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.8rpg (7th best).
Other top performing players last week: 4. Rebecca Tobin (195-F-88) of Alba Iulia - 14 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists 5. Chrissy Givens (180-F-85) of ICIM Arad - 20 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists 6. Jence Rhoads (180-G-88) of Sf.Gheorghe - 17 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists 7.
