Serbian Milos Pesic (205-F-84) had a great game in the last round for league's leader Oradea and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 4. The 28-year old forward had the game-high 27 points adding seven rebounds and four assists for Oradea in his team's victory, helping them to crush, the league's bottom-ranked team Miercurea Ciuc (#16, 0-4) with 16-point margin 94-78. It allowed Oradea to consolidate first place in the Romanian Division A. They maintain perfect record without any lost game in the league. The season is still on an early stage, but Oradea already had a very good start winning all 4 without losing a single one. It's Pesic's second year at Oradea and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Pesic has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (2nd best: 20.8ppg), rebounds (5th best: 7.8rpg), assists (9th best: 4.0apg) and averages solid 55.3% FGP.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 27-year old Lithuanian forward Mantas Griskenas (200-F-85) of CSU Sibiu. Griskenas impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. It was enough for CSU Sibiu to edge Pitesti (1-3) by 6 points 93-87. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. But CSU Sibiu managed to improve slightly their position in standings taking 11th place. 3 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory CSU Sibiu managed to get this year. Griskenas is a newcomer at CSU Sibiu and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.
The third best performed player last round was another CSU Sibiu's star - Bulgarian Aleksandar Gruev (187-G-83, agency: Global Sports Plaza). Gruev scored 21 points and passed seven assists. He was another key player of CSU Sibiu, helping his team with a 93-87 win against Pitesti (1-3). CSU Sibiu can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-3 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Gruev he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Gruev has a very solid season. In 2 games in Romania he scored 11.5ppg.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Ivan Miskovic (203-F/C-84) of Craiova - 18 points and 14 rebounds 5. Slobodan Dundjerski (188-G-88) of Gaz Metan - 22 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists 6. Franko Filipovic (203-F-87) of Miercurea Ciuc - 25 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists 7. Kramer Knutson (205-F/C-89) of CSU Sibiu - 19 points and 4 rebounds 8. Brian Burrell (192-G-84) of Giurgiu - 22 points and 3 assists 9. Damien Kinloch (203-F-80) of Pitesti - 17 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists 10. Travis Bureau (200-G-88) of Craiova - 25 points and 6 rebounds
The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
