Goran
Martinic
Montenegrin Goran Martinic (184-PG-87, agency: BeoExcell) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's second-best CSM Bucuresti and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 11.
The 25-year old playmaker had the game-high 24 points adding seven rebounds and six assists for CSM Bucuresti in his team's victory, helping them to beat U.Mobitel.CN (#9, 7-4) 92-87. CSM Bucuresti maintains the 2nd position in Romanian Division A. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. CSM Bucuresti will need more victories to improve their 8-3 record. Martinic has many years of experience at CSM Bucuresti, through which he has constantly improved. Martinic has impressive league stats. He is league's best scorer averaging so far 24.2ppg. Martinic is in league's top in assists (9th best: 4.6apg) and averages solid 2.2spg and 59.7% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 24-year old American guard Perry Petty (185-G-88) of Giurgiu. Petty impressed basketball fans with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Of course he lead Giurgiu to another comfortable win outscoring Dinamo B. (#15, 0-11) 93-61. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. But Giurgiu managed to improve slightly their position in standings taking 11th place. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 5-6 record. Petty is a newcomer at Giurgiu and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. University of Texas-Pan American alumni Petty played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas.

The third best performed player last round was Czech Republic David Steffel (212-C/F-85) of Rovinari (#8). Steffel scored 17 points and grabbed thirteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Steffel's great performance Rovinari lost 71-82 to the higher-ranked Craiova (#3, 8-3). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Rovinari needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 7 victories and 4 lost games. Steffel has a great season in Romania. After 11 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 9.9rpg (#1 in league).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Rade Dzambic (188-G-80) of Craiova - 32 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists
5. Derek Thomas (193-F-84) of Giurgiu - 17 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Leonard Filip (200-F-93) of Dinamo B. - 15 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Cristian Craciun (202-F-79) of CSU Sibiu - 19 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Nemanja Maric (196-G-83) of Oradea - 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists
9. Louis Darby (196-G-84) of Rovinari - 22 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists
10. Jevohn Shepherd (196-F-86) of CSM Bucuresti - 22 points and 5 rebounds

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Liga Nationala Round 7 (Second Stage): Steaua CSM lose to CSU Sibiu in the game between Top 4 teams - 22 hours ago
The game between Top Four teams took place in Sibiu. Third ranked host CSU Sibiu (16-9) smashed their biggest opponent Steaua CSM (15-10) 76-55. It was a key game for the second position in Nationala. The game was mostly controlled by CSU Sibiu. Steaua CSM managed to win third quarter 13-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for Serbian point guard Igor Mijajlovic (192-8...   [read more]
