American Rebecca Tobin (195-F-88) had a very impressive game in the last round for Alba Iulia and that's her to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 15. The 24-year old forward had the game-high 26 points adding seven rebounds and two assists for Alba Iulia in her team's victory, helping them to crush Targu Mures (#11, 5-9) with 25-point margin 72-47. Alba Iulia maintains the 4th position in Romanian Division A. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Alba Iulia will need more victories to improve their 10-4 record. Tobin turned to be Alba Iulia's top player in her first season with the team. Rebecca Tobin averages this season 14.6ppg and 8.2rpg.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 25-year old Serbian center Biljana Stjepanovic (189-C-87) of Brasov. Stjepanovic impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds. Of course she lead Brasov to another comfortable win 62-47 over the lower-ranked Olimpia (#14, 1-13) being unquestionably team leader. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Brasov keeps 9th position. Her team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 6-8 record. Stjepanovic is a newcomer at Brasov and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.
The third best performed player last round was another Alba Iulia's star - American Amanda Thompson (183-F-87). Thompson showcased her all-around game by recording 10 points, thirteen rebounds (!!!) and five assists in the last round. She was another key player of Alba Iulia, helping her team with a 72-47 easy win against the lower-ranked Targu Mures (#11, 5-9). Alba Iulia needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 10 victories and 4 lost games. Thompson has a great season in Romania. After 14 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 10.4rpg (#1 in league).
Other top performing players last week: 4. Jillian Robbins (190-F-84) of Targoviste - 18 points and 6 rebounds 5. Chantel Hilliard (187-F/C-90) of Targu Mures - 15 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists 6. Adina Stoiedin (186-C/F-91) of Timisoara - 19 points and 5 rebounds 7. Judit Kajdacsi (192-C-79) of Sf.Gheorghe - 16 points and 12 rebounds 8. Khadijah Whittington (185-F-86) of Satu Mare - 8 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists 9. Milica Ivanovic (175-G-88) of Sf.Gheorghe - 23 points and 3 rebounds 10. Jence Rhoads (180-G-88) of Sf.Gheorghe - 18 points and 9 assists
The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
