Experienced former international Virgil Stanescu (208-C/F-77, agency: Interperformances) had a great game in the last round for league's second-best Ploiesti and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 14.
The 35-year old had a double-double of 30 points and eleven rebounds, while his team outclassed Timba Timis. (#13, 4-10) with 33-point margin 102-69. Ploiesti is placed at 2nd position in Romanian Division A. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Ploiesti will need more victories to improve their 10-3 record. Stanescu turned to be Ploiesti's top player in his first season with the team. Virgil Stanescu averages this season 14.3ppg and 5.8rpg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 27-year old former international center Ionut Dragusin (221-C-85) of Craiova. Dragusin impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 22 points and 14 rebounds. Of course he lead Craiova to another comfortable win 82-68 over the lower-ranked Gaz Metan (#9, 7-7) being unquestionably team leader. Craiova's 5th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 10-4 record is not bad and everything may still change. Dragusin is a newcomer at Craiova and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was Montenegrin Goran Martinic (184-PG-87, agency: BeoExcell) of CSM Bucuresti (#6). Martinic scored 15 points and passed ten assists (!!!). He was a key player of CSM Bucuresti, leading his team to a 101-54 easy win against Dinamo B. (#16, 0-14). CSM Bucuresti needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 9 victories and 5 lost games. Martinic has a great season in Romania. After 14 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 22.6ppg (best scorer) and assists with 5.1apg (7th best). He also has 2.1spg and FGP: 62.3%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Ivan Bosnjak (198-G-82) of CSM Bucuresti - 16 points and 12 rebounds
5. Szabolcs Santa (209-C-87) of CSM Bucuresti - 13 points, 13 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Mihail-Octavian Paul (188-PG-82) of CSU Sibiu - 26 points and 7 assists
7. Derek Wright (180-G-86) of U.Mobitel.CN - 15 points and 9 assists
8. Jevohn Shepherd (196-F-86) of CSM Bucuresti - 20 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists
9. William Franklin (183-PG-85) of Oradea - 17 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists
10. Robert Sarovic (205-F-78) of Timisoara - 23 points and 6 rebounds

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Liga Nationala Round 7 (Second Stage): Steaua CSM lose to CSU Sibiu in the game between Top 4 teams - 1 day ago
The game between Top Four teams took place in Sibiu. Third ranked host CSU Sibiu (16-9) smashed their biggest opponent Steaua CSM (15-10) 76-55. It was a key game for the second position in Nationala. The game was mostly controlled by CSU Sibiu. Steaua CSM managed to win third quarter 13-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for Serbian point guard Igor Mijajlovic (192-8...   [read more]

Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Romanians who are currently playing abroad. This week's number one is an international point guard Malcolm Armstead (187-89, agency: Three Eye Sports). He could not help Yesilgiresun Bld (9-13) in their last game. Despite Armstead's very good performance Yesilgiresun Bld lost 83-89 on the road to the lower-ranked (#11) Istanbul BBSK.    [read more]
