20-year old point guard Gabriela Cursaru (169-PG-92) had an amazing evening in the last round for Brasov and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 16. She had the game-high 40 points adding nine rebounds and five assists for Brasov in her team's victory, helping them to crush Rapid (#13, 3-12) with 16-point margin 80-64. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on the top of the standings. Brasov maintains the 9th position in Romanian Liga Nationala. Brasov is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 7-8 record. In the team's last game Cursaru had a remarkable 61.5% from 2-point range and got seven three-pointers out of 11 attempts. It's her second year at Brasov and it's hard to imagine this team without her. Cursaru has impressive league stats. She is in league's top in assists (3rd best: 4.5apg) and averages solid 2.7spg.
Second best performed player last round was Tamara Bajic (172-G-87) of Sp.Studentesc. She is Serbian guard in her first season at Sp.Studentesc. In the last game Bajic recorded impressive double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds. Of course she lead Sp.Studentesc to another comfortable win outscoring slightly lower-ranked Targu Mures (#11, 5-10) 84-62. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Sp.Studentesc keeps 10th position. Her team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 7-8 record. Bajic is one of the most experienced players at Sp.Studentesc and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.
Third place about best performers goes to another Sp.Studentesc's star - center Vladinka Erak (190-C-84). Erak scored 25 points and grabbed six rebounds. She was another key player of Sp.Studentesc, helping her team with a 84-62 easy win against slightly lower-ranked Targu Mures (#11, 5-10). The chances of Sp.Studentesc ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 8 games, recording just seven victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Erak could help Sp.Studentesc to bring them higher in the standings. Erak has a very solid season. In 15 games in Romania she scored 10.3ppg. She also has 7.3rpg and FGP: 66.3%.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Chrissy Givens (180-F-85) of ICIM Arad - 28 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists 5. Lejla Bejtic (175-F-85) of Sp.Studentesc - 18 points, 2 rebounds and 6 assists 6. Chantel Hilliard (187-F/C-90) of Targu Mures - 14 points, 14 rebounds and 3 assists 7. Biljana Stjepanovic (189-C-87) of Brasov - 13 points and 15 rebounds 8. Shanika Freeman (186-F/C-83) of Satu Mare - 18 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists 9. Florina Diaconu (170-G-82) of Rapid - 19 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists 10. Emina Demirovic (186-C-85) of Sp.Studentesc - 12 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists
The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
