Gaz Metan capped their EuroChallenge Top 16 campaign with victory but failed to reach the next stage of the competition. The Romanian side overcame Ventspils but received no help from Pinar Karsiyaka in another game of the group and could not advance into the quarterfinal stage of the tournament.
Gaz Metan led by two points after ten minutes of action 12:10. The hosts remained aggressive defensively in the second quarter and stretched the lead. They accumulated a 26:20 halftime advantage. Gaz Metan cleared off even further in the third quarter. The hosts piled up a 9-point advantage heading into the fourth frame. The tempo grew in the fourth frame as the teams scored much more freely but Gaz Metan held on to the victory. Kyle Shiloh (191-PG-85, college: Nevada) nailed 15 points to pace the winners. Zoran Krstanovic (204-C-82, agency: TSS Management) added 13 points for the home team. Ventspils answered with 14 points from Martins Meiers (208-C-91). Donald Sims (185-PG-87, college: Appalachian St.) connected for 12 points in the loss.

Host teams show no mercy winning all games. The most important game in the last round took place in Oradea between second ranked Steaua CSM (11-3) and fifth ranked Oradea (9-6) on Saturday night. Steaua CSM was defeated by Oradea in a tough game on the road 74-81. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 81-74.
