The Regular Season in Liga Nationala is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 4 rounds.

The biggest surprise of round 18 was guest CSU Sibiu's (#3) road victory over Pitesti (#4) 80-71 on Friday evening. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 80-71. CSU Sibiu looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Pitesti helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Serbian point guard Igor Mijajlovic (192-84) who scored 21 points and 7 assists. American power forward Chris Cooper (205-90, college: ODU) chipped in 13 points and 13 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American power forward Vincent Hunter (209-84, college: Arkansas) who recorded 20 points and 5 rebounds. CSU Sibiu maintains third position with 11-6 record having just two points less than leader UBT Cluj Napoca. Pitesti at the other side dropped to the fifth place with seven games lost. They share the position with BC Timisoara. CSU Sibiu are looking forward to face Targu Mures (#7) at home in the next round. Pitesti will play against Olimpic in Baia Mare and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
Important game to mention about took place in Galati. Sixth ranked BC Timisoara (10-7) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging 8th ranked Phoenix Galati (6-11) 90-87 on Saturday evening. It was a good game for American swingman Jonte Flowers (196-85, college: Winona St.) who led his team to a victory with 24 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Octavian Calota contributed with 17 points for the winners. Serbian swingman Milos Bojovic (198-81, agency: 011 Sports) replied with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for Phoenix Galati. BC Timisoara moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Pitesti. Phoenix Galati at the other side keeps the eighth position with 11 games lost. BC Timisoara will play against higher ranked Oradea (#4) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Phoenix Galati will have a break next round.

UBT Cluj Napoca - Steaua CSM 85-68

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Cluj Napoca. First ranked UBT Cluj Napoca faced second-best Steaua CSM. Host UBT Cluj Napoca (14-2) defeated guests from Bucuresti (12-4) 85-68. The game was mostly controlled by UBT Cluj Napoca. Steaua CSM managed to win third quarter 18-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. UBT Cluj Napoca looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. A very interesting game took place in Bucuresti. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 9th ranked Craiova (4-12) to tenth ranked CS Dinamo Bucuresti (4-13) 88-86 on Sunday evening. Craiova was ahead by 7 points after three quarters before a 30-21 charge of CS Dinamo Bucuresti, which allowed them to win the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Craiova helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Serbian guard Slobodan Dundjerski (188-88) notched a double-double by scoring 19 points, 6 rebounds, 11 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and Bosnian-Serbian guard Marko Sutalo (194-83) supported him with 28 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field).
