The Second Stage in Liga Nationala just started. There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with change at the leadership position and favorites losing the games.

The most shocking disappointment of round 1 was a defeat of BC Timisoara (10-9). They were defeated by CSU Sibiu (13-6) 77-70 on Friday night. BC Timisoara was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. They outrebounded BC Timisoara 37-26 including 30 on the defensive glass. 29 personal fouls committed by BC Timisoara helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Serbian point guard Igor Mijajlovic (192-84) stepped up and scored 18 points and 5 assists (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners and American power forward Chris Cooper (205-90, college: ODU) chipped in 11 points and 11 rebounds. At the losing side Serbian guard Mladen Jeremic (198-88, agency: 011 Sports) responded with 21 points. BC Timisoara will play next round against Oradea trying to make it back to the top of the standings. CSU Sibiu will try to continue on its current victory against Steaua CSM in Bucuresti.
Very significant was Phoenix Galati's (#3) 85-78 road victory against CS Dinamo Bucuresti in Nationala. American guard Phillip Miller (185-91, college: Wiley, agency: 011 Sports) nailed 29 points and 4 assists for the winning side and Drew Brandon accounted for 16 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists. American Deven Mitchell (196-84, agency: Interperformances) came up with 19 points and 7 rebounds for CS Dinamo Bucuresti in the defeat. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Steaua CSM will play against CSU Sibiu and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Worth to mention a great performance of Kyndall Dykes who helped to win the game recording 29 points. UBT Cluj Napoca's next round opponent will be Pitesti (#4) at home. Oradea will play against BC Timisoara and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Very important is a road loss of Steaua CSM (12-7) against Pitesti (10-9) on Saturday night. Visiting Steaua CSM was defeated by Pitesti in a tough game in Pitesti 67-72. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 72-67. Pitesti made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Serbian center Alexandar Mladenovic (207-84, agency: BeoExcell) fired 23 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. FYR Macedonian point guard Aleksandar Kostoski (186-88) chipped in 11 points and 8 assists. Lithuanian guard Marius Runkauskas (189-86, agency: Octagon Europe) produced 19 points and Serbian forward Nikola Malesevic (202-89, college: Rhode Island, agency: BeoExcell) added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. The guests were already 11 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 20-14 Oradea's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 84-79 at the end of the game.
