  follow us on Facebook Twitter

Here is the weekly review of the top performing Romanian players, who play currently abroad.

Malcolm Armstead
Malcolm Armstead
#1. This week's number one is an international point guard Malcolm Armstead (187-89, agency: Three Eye Sports, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Turkey). He was the major contributor in a Yesilgiresun Bld's victory against the closely-ranked Usak Sportlif (6-15) 109-100 in the Turkish BSL in Saturday night's game. Armstead scored 24 points and added 9 assists in 33 minutes on the court. Yesilgiresun Belediye (9-12) is placed tenth in the BSL. It was his team's first victory after three consecutive loses. Armstead has relatively good stats this year: 12.5ppg, 3.0rpg, 5.4apg, 1.8spg, 2FGP: 46.6%, 3FGP: 28.7% and FT: 75.0% in 21 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Armstead is currently a member of the Romanian senior national team. Strangely he has never played in Romania.

Alexandru Olah
Alexandru Olah
#2. Second place goes to an international center Alexandru Olah (213-93, college: Northwestern, currently plays in Belgium). Olah could not help Belfius Mons-Hainaut (9-15) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his very good performance Belfius Mons-Hainaut was edged 92-89 on the road by the higher-ranked Okapi Aalstar (#5). Olah was the second best scorer with 21 points. He also added 4 rebounds. It's Olah's first season with the team. This year Olah has relatively solid stats: 10.6ppg, 4.8rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 49.5%, 3FGP: 29.2% and FT: 82.8%. He is in the roster of the Romanian senior national team.

Vlad Cobzaru
Vlad Cobzaru
#3. The Romanian player who performed third best last week abroad was former U20 international forward Vlad Cobzaru (203-95, currently plays in NCAA2). Cobzaru contributed to an easy victory against the Columbus State University (11-9) crushing them 102-68 in the NCAA2 in Saturday night's game. He recorded 8 points. It was the game of the round between two top 2 ranked teams in Division East. The Augusta University has a solid 14-5 record this season. Cobzaru's team will play only one more game in the NCAA2 National Tournament Round 1. And that game will be critical. This season Cobzaru averages: 4.9ppg, 2.8rpg, 2FGP: 51.0% and FT: 71.7%. He played for the Romanian U20 national team two years ago.

Rares Uta
Rares Uta
#4. Power forward Rares Uta (211-97, currently plays in Spain) managed to help Coviran Granada to win against the league outsider Zamorano (5-19) 84-79 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) on Saturday night. He scored only 2 points. Coviran Granada (18-7) is placed second in the LEB Silver. Uta's overall stats this season are: 6.5ppg and 4.7rpg. He used to play for the Romanian U18 national team back in 2015.

The list of other players, who all have Romanian passport but never been selected to any of Romanian national teams:

#1. Victor Osmatescu (201-C-96, currently plays in Italy) contributed to Scauri's surprising victory against the leader Napoli Cuore (20-4) 76-72 in the Italian Serie B (third division) on Sunday night. Osmatescu scored 8 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in 35 minutes. Basket Scauri (11-11) is placed ninth in Group C. This year Osmatescu's overall stats are: 6.6ppg and 4.0rpg in 22 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Romanian and Italian.

#2. Experienced Alexei Andrus (195-G/F-79, currently plays in Germany) could not help Zwickau (7-15) in their last game. Despite Andrus' very good performance the 12th-placed Zwickau (7-15) lost 88-101 on the road to the second-ranked Treuchtlingen in the South-East group. He was the second best scorer with 17 points. Andrus also added 5 rebounds and dished 5 assists (went 6 for 6 at the free throw line) in 29 minutes. It was Zwickau's third consecutive loss in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Andrus is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Zwickau's roster. He has reliable stats this season: 13.0ppg, 4.5rpg and 2.1apg in 22 games. Andrus is another player who holds two passports: Romanian and Moldovan.

#3. Yaniv Solomon (201-SF-94, currently plays in Israel) was the major contributor in a Hapoel Ramat Gan Givataim's victory against the closely-ranked Hapoel B/S (15-8) 84-75 in the Israeli National League (second division) in Tuesday night's game. Solomon scored 24 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 38 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Hapoel Ramat Gan Givataim (15-8) is placed third in the National League. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Solomon has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 19.2ppg, 7.0rpg, 1.9apg and 1.5spg in 23 games. Solomon has both Israeli and Romanian nationalities. Despite his Romanian passport, Solomon previously played for the Israeli U18 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Romanian team.
