UMMC claimed the seventh PBL title in their history. They overcame Spartak V MR in Vidnoe tonight to sweep the title series. UMMC swept the trophies this season winning Russian championship, Russian Cup and EuroLeague. Sandrine Gruda (193-C-87) posted 23 points to lead UMMC to the decisive victory tonight. UMMC set the tone early in the game. They shocked Spartak MR with a 30:13 rally in the opening quarter. UMMC boosted their lead in the second frame. The Ekaterinburg team gained a 47:25 halftime lead. The visitors cleared off for good in the third period. They accumulated a 71:36 advantage heading into the fourth frame. Spartak sweetened the pill with a 32:13 run in the final period but it could not stop UMMC from taking the title. Candace Parker (193-C-86, college: Tennessee) posted 14 points, while Sue Bird (175-PG-80, college: Connecticut) and Diana Taurasi (182-SG-82, college: Connecticut) had 10 points each for the winners. Marina Kuzina (195-C-85, agency: IPSA) answered with 22 points for Spartak. Natalia Vieru (196-C-89) chipped in 17 points in the losing effort. Nadezhda Orenburg earned the Bronze medals. They prevailed against Dynamo Kursk 88:82 in the decisive third game of the series. DeWanna Bonner (193-G-87, agency: Josep and Nicolas, college: Auburn) stepped up with 21 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Orenburg team to an overtime success.
UMMC triumph in the Cup Final as they beat Spartak Moscow Region 82:53. UMMC started well and dominated the whole game. They won the first period 23-9 and added 21-13 in the second frame. Both teams exchanged the victories in the second half for the final result. Candace Parker (193-C-86, college: Tennessee) stepped up with 18 points and 11 rebounds and Gruda posted 12 points. Maria Stepanova (202-C-79) and Taurasi notched 11 points each, while Nolan had 10. Seimone Augustus (183-SF-84, college: LSU) replied with 14 points in the losing effort and Petrovic posted 11. In the game for the third place Dynamo Moscow shock Nadezhda 73:70. Trailing 13-19 in the first period, Dynamo won the second frame 23-11 and never looked behind after. Harper stepped up with 25 points, 11 rebounds and 5 block-shots. Ilona Korstin (183-SG-80, agency: Josep and Nicolas) had 16 and Kristi Toliver (170-PG-87, college: Maryland) added 13. Bonner answered with 19 points in defeat.
