University Games, Day 2: Brazil - Russia 62-99
Russia demonstrated magnificent performance today in Belgrade outgunning Brazil with huge 99-62. It means that Russians now have 2-0 record in Group F. As a reminder, the first game against Gabon was not played and Russia won it with official 20-0. As Russia, Israel also has perfect 2-0 record in the pool. Brazil fell to 0-2.

University Games, Day 2: Brazil - Russia 62-99
Russia demonstrated magnificent performance today in Belgrade outgunning Brazil with huge 99-62. It means that Russians now have 2-0 record in Group F. As a reminder, the first game against Gabon was not played and Russia won it with official 20-0. As Russia, Israel also has perfect 2-0 record in the pool. Brazil fell to 0-2. Valeri Likhodey (203-F-86) led the scorers in Russia with 21 points. Dramir Zibirov (188-G-86) is another player who shined today and he drained 20 points, also grabbing 5 rebounds. Nikita Shabalkin (204-F-86) delivered 15 pts and pulled down 5 rebs. In Brazil, Douglas Kurtz (206-C-87) had 17 and Andre Goes (195-G/F-87) added 14 pts. Russia dominated during the entire game. Actually, Brazil maybe had some chance before the last quarter, but than all their hopes quickly disappeared. Russia started to play much stronger at the defensive end limiting their rivals on 15 pts in the last quarter. On the other side, they were totally unstoppable. 35 points scored until the end was a great finish for the Russians, who will meet Israel tomorrow in crucial game for position No.1.
Power forward / center Vanja Plisnic (207-F/C-80, agency: Beo Basket) will continue career in Italy. After two years with Ural Great Perm, the player moves to Palacanestro Biella, who finished last season in Serie A as No.7 with 15-15 record.
Vanja Plisnic appeared 21 times for Ural in Superleague 08/09 averaging 12.2 ppg. He ended the competition as third best rebounder with 6 rpg. Interesting is that his season-high was 27 points against CSKA Moscow [read more]

At the end of the season Plisnic was named 'Eurobasket.com All-Russian A Superleague Honorable Mention'. Before two years with Ural, Vanja Plisnic was a member of Hemofarm Vrsac, Telindus BC Oostende, Reflex Belgrade and Vojvodina Novi Sad. With Reflex they were Adriatic league champions in 2004. Two years later he was in 'Eurobasket.com All-Adriatic League 2nd Team'. Plisnic also played for Team Serbia on World University Games 2003 and 2005. Ural Great Perm reached EuroChallenge Quarterfinals last season. In Russia they were No.10 with 6-16 record.

Russia needed a win in the last game over Latvia U20 to finish first at the 14th International Turgut Atakol Tournament. Eurobasket wrote that Russia U20 opened the International Turgut Atakol Tournament with the win over Croatia U20. A very productive game with the good percentage from the field from both teams brought the Russian juniors the first 99:89 victory.

Russia needed a win in the last game over Latvia U20 to finish first at the 14th International Turgut Atakol Tournament. Eurobasket wrote that Russia U20 opened the International Turgut Atakol Tournament with the win over Croatia U20. A very productive game with the good percentage from the field from both teams brought the Russian juniors the first 99:89 victory. In Day 2 Turkey outscored Russia 92:82. Even thought the guests opened the game with 23:20, Turkey grabbed 37:36 lead at the halftime. Deniz Kilicli, Gokhan Sirin and Can Ozcan jumped with their team to 42:36 and Melih Mahmutoglu closed the period at 69:60. Melih Mahmutoglu and Ilkan Karaman scored for 81:69 and then Turkey held off the opponents for the initial victory. Melih Mahmutoglu poured in 24 points for the winners and Erol Can Cinko netted 12. Vladimir Ivlev (204-F-90) responded with 19 points for the Russian squad. Semen Antonov (203-F-89) netted 18, Maxim Grigoryev had 16 and Dmitriy Khostov added 14. In the last day Russia U20 beat Latvia U20 87:79 to finish with 2-1 record on the top spot. Russian team opened the game with 22-17 in the opening quarter and led to 42:34 at the halftime. Semen Antonov and Maxim Zakharov gave Russia such a lead in the end of the first half. Lauris Blaus reduced the margin to 48:41 and then Kristers Zaldaks made it 65:58. Dairis Bertanis and Lauris Blaus pulled the Baltic side back to 70:64, however Russia kept the score for good. Semen Antonov top-scored for the winners with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Viacheslav Zaytsev (190-G-89) and Dmitriy Khostov followed him with 16 points apiece and Vladimir Ivlev collected 10 points and 10 rebounds. Dairis Bertans responded with 22 points in the losing case and Lauris Blaus netted 11.

Dynamo Moscow: took 4th place (4-2) in Group B, took 1st place (6-0) in Group I, lost to Hemofarm (Serbia) 85-93 in the Quarterfinals
Unics Kazan: took 1st place (6-0) in Group B of Regular Season, took 3rd place (3-3) in Group J of Top16
CSK VVS Samara: took 2nd place (3-3) in Group G of Regular Season, took 4th place (0-6) in Group L of Top16
Lokomotiv Rostov na Donu: took 2nd place (4-2) in Group C of Regular Season, took 4th place (2-4) in Group K of Top16
Triumph Lyubertsy: lost in Eurocup qualifications; EuroChallenge: took 1st place (4-2) in Group H of Regular Season, took 1st place (5-1) in Group L of Top16, lost 78-81 to Cholet in the Semifinals (!!!)
