Guard Pavel Aleksandrov (196-G-89) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Sojuz Zaretchny, receiving a Eurobasket.com Superleague Player of the Week award for round 28. The 22-year old player was the main contributor (30 points, six rebounds and three assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat TEMP-SUMZ (#3, 14-9) 102-97. Sojuz Zaretchny maintains the 9th position in Russian Superleague. Too late to salvage the team, which is currently ranked at the very bottom. They already lost 16 games and recorded just five victories. In the team's last game Aleksandrov had a remarkable four three-pointers out of 6 attempts. It's his second year at Sojuz Zaretchny and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Pavel Aleksandrov has solid league stats. He is in league's top in points (8th best: 11.9ppg) and assists (5th best: 3.7apg).
The second best player in last round's games was 26-year old Aleksei Vzdykhalkin (190-G-85, agency: Interperformances) of Rjazan. Vzdykhalkin had a very good evening with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Bad luck as Rjazan was edged by the higher-ranked Ural Ekaterinb. (#1, 21-4) 78-75. Rjazan managed to keep the same 6th spot in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 10-11 record. Vzdykhalkin is a newcomer at Rjazan, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 12.9ppg (#7). He also registered 5.1 boards per game.
Third on the list of top players last round was guard Anton Ageev (192-G-84) of Ruskon-Mord. (#7). Ageev scored 22 points. Despite Ageev's great performance Ruskon-Mord. lost 71-88 to the higher-ranked Univ.Surgut (#4, 13-10). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Ruskon-Mord. can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 6-15 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Ageev he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Ageev has individually a great season in Russia. After 21 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 15.5ppg (2nd best).
Other top performing players last week: 4. Linas Lekavicius (186-G-84) of Univ.Surgut - 20 points, 2 rebounds and 5 assists 5. Aleksey Kirjanov (206-F-81) of TEMP-SUMZ - 29 points and 6 rebounds 6. Semen Shashkov (205-F-89) of Ural Ekaterinb. - 21 points and 4 rebounds 7. Vladimir Dyachok (204-F-80) of Univ.Surgut - 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists 8. Andrei Babitchev (210-F/C-85) of Spartak V. - 12 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists 9. Alexei Kuznetsov (203-F/C-84) of Ruskon-Mord. - 17 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists 10. Andrei Vokhmianine (184-PG-81) of TEMP-SUMZ - 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists
The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
