The most exciting game of round 8 in the Superlaegue took place in Barnau. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of second-ranked Ruskon-Mordovia (5-3) to sixth ranked AltajBasket (5-3) 73-71 in the game for the fifth place. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Ruskon-Mordovia. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. AltajBasket forced 19 Ruskon-Mordovia turnovers. Guard Sergey Chernov (187-86) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points, 8 assists and 4 steals. Center Sergey Varlamov (209-84) contributed with 8 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Lithuanian guard Sarunas Vasiliauskas (188-89, agency: Alti Sport) replied with 19 points and 4 assists for Ruskon-Mordovia. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. AltajBasket have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Ruskon-Mord. AltajBasket is looking forward to face league's leader Ataman in Rostov in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Ruskon-Mordovia will play at home against Severstal (#12) in Cherepovec and is hoping to win this game.
Superlaegue top team - Ataman (7-1) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat tenth ranked Dynamo Moscow (3-5) 81-66. Worth to mention a quality performance of guard Pavel Aleksandrov (196-89) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 5 assists and Aleksandr Pavlov who added 13 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. The former international forward Nikita Morgunov (210-75, agency: Interperformances) responded with 22 points. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ataman have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-1 record. Newly promoted Dynamo Moscow dropped to the eleventh place with five games lost. They share the position with Severstal. Ataman will play against AltajBasket (#5) in Barnau in the next round. Dynamo Moscow will play on the road against Rjazan (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked Spartak Vidnoye is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their seventh consecutive match to seventh ranked Planeta-Univ. (4-3) 76-59 on Friday evening. The winners were led by David Loubeau who scored that evening 19 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Even 9 points and 8 rebounds by Andrey Loginov did not help to save the game for Spartak Vidnoye. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Planeta-Univ. maintains seventh position with 4-3 record, which they share with Avtodor. Spartak Vidnoye at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with seven games lost. Planeta-Univ. will meet TEMP-SUMZ Revda (#10) on the road in the next round. Spartak Vidnoye will play against Ural Ekaterinburg (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Ural Ekaterinburg moved-up to second place, which they share with Univ.Surgut and Novosybirsk. Severstal lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eleventh position with five games lost. Ural Ekaterinburg's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Spartak Vidnoye (#15) in Moscow which should be another easy win for them. Severstal will play on the road against Ruskon-Mordovia (#6) in Saransk.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 8: Avtodor beat Sojuz Zaretchny on the road 81-74. Novosybirsk won against TEMP-SUMZ on its own court 89-76. Rjazan managed to outperform Volgograd in a road game 78-74.
The most impressive performance of 8th round was 26 points and 11 rebounds by Stanislav Makshantsev of Novosybirsk.


Sojuz Zaretchny - Avtodor 74-81

No shocking result in a game when eighth ranked Avtodor (4-3) beat on the road 13th ranked Sojuz Zaretchny (2-5) 81-74. The guests were already 15 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 18-10 Sojuz Zaretchny's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 81-74 at the end of the game. Avtodor forced 24 Sojuz Zaretchny turnovers. The best player for the winners was forward Andrey Petukhov (207-86) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds. Power forward Alexander Lavnikov (205-91) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Denis Novikov (200-85) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and forward Aleksander Pushkin (203-87) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Sojuz Zaretchny's coach Sergey Mostovschikov rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Avtodor have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Planeta-Univ. Sojuz Zaretchny at the other side keeps the thirteenth position with five games lost. Avtodor's next round opponent will be higher ranked Universitet-Yugra (#3) in Surgut and it may be quite challenging game. Sojuz Zaretchny will play at home against the league's second-placed Novosybirsk (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.

Very expected game when 9th ranked TEMP-SUMZ Revda (3-4) lost on the road to fourth ranked Novosybirsk (5-2) 89-76. It looked good early as TEMP-SUMZ Revda took an 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Novosybirsk had a 23-12 second period charge getting the lead and TEMP-SUMZ Revda was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 76-89. Novosybirsk dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to TEMP-SUMZ Revda's 30. Novosybirsk forced 22 TEMP-SUMZ Revda turnovers and outrebounded them 43-29 including 29 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was naturalized Kazakhstan Stanislav Makshantsev (205-78, college: Furman) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 rebounds. Center Pavel Podkolzin (226-85) chipped in 21 points and 7 rebounds. Four Novosybirsk players scored in double figures. Forward Sergei Khlopov (198-78) produced 14 points and 7 rebounds and center Aleksey Komarov (206-81) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Novosybirsk have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Univ.Surgut and Ural Ekaterinb. TEMP-SUMZ Revda at the other side dropped to the tenth position with four games lost. Novosybirsk's next round opponent will be Sojuz Zaretchny (#13) on the road which should be an easy win for them. TEMP-SUMZ Revda will play against Planeta-Univ. in Ukhta.

Superlaegue top team - Ataman (7-1) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat tenth ranked Dynamo Moscow (3-5) 81-66. Dynamo Moscow was ahead by 7 points at the halftime before a 53-31 second half run of Ataman. They also forced 19 Dynamo Moscow turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Ataman brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Dynamo Moscow was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a quality performance of guard Pavel Aleksandrov (196-89) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 5 assists and forward Aleksandr Pavlov (201-86, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) who added 13 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Four Ataman players scored in double figures. The former international forward Nikita Morgunov (210-75, agency: Interperformances) responded with 22 points and guard Artur Urazmanov (186-87) scored 8 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ataman have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-1 record. They outrebounded Volgograd 38-25 including 23 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was guard Viktor Uskov (182-86) who scored 18 points. Center Nikita Stepanenkov (208-87) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Rjazan's coach Zoran Cvetanovic used entire bench in such tough game.
