34-year old power forward Stanislav Makshantsev (205-PF-78) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for second-ranked Novosybirsk and receives a Eurobasket.com Superleague Player of the Week award for round 8. He had a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds, while his team beat TEMP-SUMZ (#10, 3-4) 89-76. Novosybirsk is placed at 2nd position in Russian Superleague. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. Novosybirsk will need more victories to improve their 5-2 record. It's Makshantsev's second year at Novosybirsk and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Furman University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Makshantsev is league's best scorer averaging so far 18.9ppg. Makshantsev is in league's top in rebounds (7th best: 7.3rpg) and averages solid 45.0% from behind 3-point line.
Second best performed player last round was Pavel Podkolzin (226-C-85). He is a center in his 3rd season at Novosybirsk. In the last game Podkolzin recorded impressive 21 points and 7 rebounds. Of course together with Makshantsev he helped Novosybirsk with another comfortable win 89-76 over the lower-ranked TEMP-SUMZ (#10, 3-4) being unquestionably team leader. This victory allowed Novosybirsk to move up to second position in the standings. His team's 5-2 record is not bad at all. Podkolzin is one of the most experienced players at Novosybirsk and similarly like Stanislav Makshantsev has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 16.5ppg (#6). He also registered 8.3 boards per game.
Third place about best performers goes to guard Sergey Chernov (187-G-86) of AltajBasket (#5). Chernov scored 18 points and passed eight assists. He was a key player of AltajBasket, leading his team to a 73-71 win against Ruskon-Mord. (5-3). AltajBasket needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 5 victories and 3 lost games. Chernov has a great season in Russia. After only 8 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.5ppg (2nd best) and assists with 6.1apg (2nd best). He also has 2.1spg and FGP: 56.3%.
